With the resources at LSU's disposal...

We should always have a guy like Etling in the program. A 3rd or 4th year guy, maybe not a superstar, but a solid QB with a winning attitude.
You look at HS football in Louisiana, Mississippi, and East Texas, the top programs are always graduating guys that could be Danny Etling 3-4 years from now. We should be signing one per year so that if our hot shot 4 or 5 star doesn't pan out we have an Etling to turn to.
It's nice to have him this year, but the truth is we should have had a similar option in 2008, 2010, 2014, and 2015.

Generally the guys who are willing to sign and possibly never play aren't good.

Wasn't Mett a similar situation? Not sure.

Et tiling was a 4 star out of HS...same as BH.

I'm not really sure how LSU gets any quarterbacks at all. Les has been absolutely terrible with the position.

That's a good point, and to the previous post, I didn't realize Etling was that highly recruited.
I guess what I'm saying is, if your program's identity is going to be smashmouth football and dominating defense, then your QB targets in recruiting should be solid, dependable guys with all the intangibles.

Miles' is enamored by dual threat QBs that don't fit his scheme at all. He can't judge qb talent at all, but he is so stubborn he will force it where it doesn't fit. He should have been able to look at Harris who only played the position for two years in High School and known this kid is not going to project well in my system. But he is so devoid of imagination he can't think that deeply. Harris has terrible mechanics his film showed that. Miles still thinks he can rely on a strong running game to move the chains and just set up for deep balls running two wide outs deep with one check down.

LA doesn't produce qbs.
They end up on teams at other positions.
Ruben Randle
Terrance Magee
Mo Claiborne
John Diarse
Early doucet
Skyler Green
I know I'm missing quite a few, but you get the idea.
La qbs that did well and went drafted.
Dak Prescott, Stefan lefors and Eli.
That's about it and none of them played at LSU.

Dual threat qbs to start for Les.
Ryan Perrilloux, Brandon Harris.

Jefferson was a better runner than Harris. Maybe not faster but he made a lot of plays running.

Although Les has final say, Harris is cams guy. Say what you will, but these guys discuss the players they want on their side of the ball.

And was listed as a pro style qb. Too many people equate being black as a dual threat.

And your point the only one worth calling a competent QB was Perriloux. JJ was labeled right or wrong as a dual threat also, he and BH are the same type of QB. Miles wants a mobile QB but they don't have to come from the "dual threat" genre. He is stuck on that what he has in Harris like JJ is a good athlete playing QB. Not an athletic QB with good mechanics. The first priority should be accuracy damn it, not how far he can chunk it, or how fast he runs the 40.

Everyone is looking for this guy.

But, he wasn't. He was only labeled dual threat by those here who saw him as dual threat because he is black. To everyone else, he was a pro style qb.

This.
And if Harris turned out to be a Dak Prescott somewhere else this place would criticize Miles for missing out on him.
He was one of the highest rated QBs to come out of LA in a while. LSU had to have him.

Anyone that runs more than Mett or Matthew Stafford is considered a dual threat at the college level.
Jefferson averaged roughly 9 rushing attempts per game at LSU from 2009-2011 and rushed for 450 yards in 2010. What he was listed as coming out of high school is irrelevant when he was asked to run that often at LSU.

Are you sure? Admittedly, I have not gone back and read his recruiting profile. He never looked like a pocket passer his throwing motion was not very good. Harris actually has a better motion his feet are just never in line with his targets it seems.

JJ was a pocket passer
