Should NCAA grant Oklahoma State the victory?

By rule the game was over. There was no time left on the clock. It was an untimed play that was only allowed to happen since the officials on the field and in the booth did not know the rules.

Honestly, yes. But they'll never open up that can of worms.

They should really just vacate the whole damn game.

This. They'll get bogged down in appeal hell and inevitably cause more controversy in the long run.

True, but the rule should change. There is zero question. The game was over.
Not "they might have fumbled the snap when they tried to kneel" or some other scenario where there was a possibility, however remote, for a different outcome. Game was over right there.

What about Colorado's 5 downs? By rule they had their 4 and their possession was over.

Can someone explain to me what happened? Just saw the highlight and the stuff rolling along the bottom line. I'm confused as to what happened?
Posted on 9/12/16 at 10:22 pm to gumbeaux
Yes, it's an absolute garbage rule that makes zero sense.

They gave CMU an untimed down after an unintentional grounding on 4th down by OSU. CMU then scored on the hail mary, lateral. By rule, the game was over after that penalty.

By far yes.
As I said before.
Colorado should have never split the natty based on 5 downs.
These aren't judgment calls. These aren't plays that happened earlier in the game.
These are...you failed to get a TD on 4th down...Colorado...your 5th down TD on the last play is nullified.
Cornell forfeited their game on a 5th down and it cost them the national championship.
I have Zero problem with nullifying last plays if they are wrong.
Earlier plays to reverse a game, no.
But in situations, where if it wasn't for idiots, a team would have never had the opportunity to score the winning points, then that doesn't count.
Why should it? Why should it?

Central Michigan had the ball and had an intentional grounding called against the,. There was no more time left on the clock. By rule, the game isnotextended when a team commits a penalty when there is a loss of down.
By rule, the game was over but the officials gave Cental Michigan an untimed play. It was a Hail Mary play that worked so they "won"

To me the rule should change to have allowed for that untimed down. If a team is leading and commits a turnover and a penalty against the offense occurs there should be an untimed down. As for the question the answer is no.

The duke-Miami kick return last year, etc.
The real answer here is officials need to be disciplined better when they frick up so egregiously. Better, like fired. If anyone else at their job fricked up on equivalent level of making an incorrect call to end a game, they would almost certainly be fired. Time fr that to start happening in these situations.

What about a judgement call that should have been overturned by today but a camera angle comes out later, a la 4th and goal from the one with one second left.
Do you review it with the new angle?

Did Oklahoma State win on the field Saturday?
No. You don't reverse that.
What you do is change the rule that gives Oklahoma State any argument here because it's a poorly written rule - the rule didn't account for turnover on downs.

It's touchy but there probably needs to be some way to distinguish between a judgement call and just flat out not knowing/incorrectly enforcing the rules of the game.

No. As I've learned on this site, if you make an EXCEPTION to the RULE there is no stopping the CHAOS that will ensue. RULES ARE RULES!

They had more points when the clock read 00:00.
Cent. Mich. was GIVEN a chance, wrongly and after the game was over, to overcome that.
YES.
