O Line - Horrific Performance, Yet Again

The O line is not only poor in pass protection, now they seem to have issues setting up a hole for the run game.

2 weeks in a row, I saw very poor line play and with all the talk about how Les loves to run the ball, I just don't see it happening, as we have done in the past.

Another regression from last year.

I haven't rematched the game, but Guise had holes half of the OT could run through last night.

They were inconsistent last night. They opened some massive holes and at other times really struggled. They were not horrible.

i'm going to wait and see film before I embarrass myself also.

OL improved last night. I think this years line is better at pass blocking than last year. and Etling seems to have a "pocket presence" that enabled him to escape from some sure sacks.

we play a better DL next week and an even better one the week after. the truth will come out.

it is very hard to judge OL play in real time. BUT, it was definitely better than last week.

Does this fall on Grimes? I ask, because Coach Stud got better production out of his lines and the perception is that he sucked.

Oh, you are right... about 30% of the time there were massive holes and 70%, no holes - ZERO.

That is horrible to me, especially when you look at the competition and the fact this is 2 weeks in a row.

What happens in SEC play?

Yep and they have me very concerned with the first 2 weeks of play.

It doesn't seem to me that the opponent's DL is getting some great push or has a good player, it looks more like the OL isn't really getting onto and holding blocks - it looks like a mess. I see no consistency.

And if we can't run the ball, then it will be pass or nothing, and we know how passing has typically worked.

Yeah, I think it is definitely on Grimes and Miles too, since he spends time with the OL.

Its a vast difference from last year.

We did lose a couple starts, so there is that, but its not like we are running complicated blocking schemes here... I'm just not sure what is going on.

We have had poor play - lot of whiffing on blocks and such and that isn't on the scheme or blocking assignments.

Yep. I think Cam saved the OLs arse. They were collapsing, and he called a brilliant middle screen. It seemed to slow them way down.

The second team online seemed to open the largest holes of the night. That's what it looked like to me from the end zone.

The RBs averaged over 8 ypc as a unit. QBs had time to throw and a pocket to step up into most of the time.

The OL was not at all "horrific". Don't be a drama queen.

I didn't see it either. I thought they played good. Should know more in the next couple of weeks.

OL Played much better against a weaker defense.
Fewer busts, no matter what quality on the other side of the line.

If we don't set up counters and traps we can't zine block and FCS team

Just think about it. They are pathetically prepated and physically kinda bad

The OL has no faith in Harris. I think it revived them a bit to block for Etling, a QB who gives us at least a chance of winning the tougher games.

That O line is going to be pushed around hard by the big SEC guys. No matter who the QB is, he will be under pressure and make errant throws. Going to get killed in the trenches.
