I used Gator Maxx on mine, and have been happy with it. I didn't use a compactor on my test area, and some of it got washed out (that is right where most of my roof water hits the ground though). Everything else has held up very well, and there are very few random weeds that'll poke through once every couple of months.

So OP, rent a compactor when you do it
