They used book money to buy other school supplies in the book store. Things like paper, binders and pencils.

Also, sounds like it's the school suspending them, not the NCAA..

So, you can't spend that money on anything other than books, yet if you don't spend that money, it will be taken back.

The NCAA did the same thing back in 2007 to a ton of athletes at Alabama.

NCAA should allow them to spread out the suspension over a year. Hell they let Ohio play a bowl game with their players. Why not have some flexibility? Oh yeah $$$
