Considering the speed at which they eat any people food I give them, I'd have to say they aren't exactly getting the most out of whatever taste buds they have.

doubt it...my dog has eaten the same brand/flavor of food for 5 years...seems to enjoy it every time.

No taste buds. Dogs use their incredible sense of smell. My dogs would arse rape a porcupine to get to that bacon cooking in the microwave.
