Mine is getting worn out. Currently have a 5.11. New one needs to be 1.5" and under $50.

I have a Volund atlas belt. Pretty nice. They are $50. I don't know how much shipping is though.

what does a shooting belt do that a regular belt doesn't?

One piece nylon belt with scuba webbing. Pretty cool buckle, not really a buckle. Lays flat and is comfortable with a big arse heavy buckle.
They make a "lite" version as well.

If you want one that doesn't look completely ridiculous like nylon belts, check out Kore Essentials. They have thick leather belts with a ratcheting system that makes dressing around your gun very easy. They also sent me a free belt for review when they saw my video of Mission Belt. They really believe in the product and I do too.
They also have a detailed comment below the video. Check it out.

If you are looking for an everyday belt check out ares gear.
Leather-----mean gene
The Ares buckle doesn't use holes. Easy peasy.

Typically thicker and stiffer which keeps holster moment to a minimum.

This isn't a belt I'll be using for EDC. Just at the range or when I'm doing field work. I would prefer nylon.

Gotcha! I had the same question as cgrand. I use the Wildnerness Instuctor's belt. The link is for the version w/ a non-metal buckle as opposed to the metal buckle. I'm kinda partial to the non-metal buckle.
