Agree with most of your post but how does Garrett (ILB) leaving affect Divinity playing (OLB)?
These positions aren't necessarily set in stone. After all, Beckwith started out as a DE. It's about getting your best guys on the field, regardless of their (or your, or our) perception of position.

How do we feel about Divinity starting?
The truth is that it sucks. It's the wages of shitty linebacker recruiting for the last few years. Until the 2016 class we had done a piss-poor job there.
I'm sure Divinity will be a great one before his time is up, but he's going to be a weak point this year - not physically, but assignment wise. Remember, starting a freshman Mills cost us the 2012 Bama game. He ended up being a great DB, but not his freshman year.
Luckily we don't have much of that this year.

If the coaches like it, then I'm all for it!

He was an early enrollee so he has as much experience in this system as everyone else. Aranda is the DC and the LB coach. If he sees enough in Divinity to start him over upperclassmen, I am excited about our future.

Coaches clearly think he is a better fit at OLB than Tashawn Bower or Donnie Alexander, the 2 guys that depending on what the coaches wanted, seemed like the logical choices going into the season to play opposite Key. Seeing as though I thought those were 2 pretty solid options, and Divinity is apparently better than either of them, I'd have to say I feel pretty good.
Tashawn Bower is NOT a good option at OLB. He's a defensive end. You can put "OLB" next to his name all you want, but he's still not going to be able to cover Dalvin Cooke or Chubbs.
Also, to those saying, "If Aranda thinks he's good enough..." Aranda probably does not think he's good enough - just that he's the best we've got.

He is going to get a lot of snaps. kid is a very smart player and has been playing that position for a while. I think he will be a great contributor. I dont really care about who is the "starter". I'm sure sometimes bower or alexander will start at that spot and we will be fine. We have so much talent I just dont see one guy getting a large majority share at a few positions.
If i had to guess there are packages and looks they like better with different guys in there. just like how I think Devin White will get a lot of run in the middle. Even though Riley and Beckwith should be good

He's been here since January. If Arranda thinks he's ready...then he's ready.

a true freshman starting game one in a new defense
What's the new defense got to do with it? If anything that helps him since the guys with experience are having to start fresh with the schemes too.
Gotta believe Aranda is going to put his best defense on the field. If that's Divinity then I'm fine with it.

The kid beat out Donnie Alexander, Devin Voorhies, Rashaan Thornton and MJ Patterson so he must be pretty darn good. Only person to beat him out was Corey Thompson. I think we are fine!

It was only a matter of time before he became / becomes the starter. He's a great fit in Arandas scheme, while others are moving to OLB for the first time and aren't great fits there, and is probably our most talented OLB on the roster besides Key.

I can only feel for myself, but I'm felling good to pretty good. Not great though, at least not yet.

If White and Divinity end up playing well this season, it will be a big thing for recruiting linebackers going forward.

Bower is a 4-3 end. So divinity is a better fit. Bower will get a lot of reps when we go 4 down lineman and in situations where his size and strength fit.

Recruiting promise?

Divinity is up to 238-240 range as of yesterday. He is ready.
