For some reason this is one of my favorites- wife thinks it's meh. Soundtrack is solid as well. 8/10 movie.

Don't get the hate. Love it

The end always gets me when he has to tell his wife bye. I always wondered what if that happened to me. Sad

Helen Hunt was his fiancee.

I think this is by far Tom Hanks' greatest acting. For all intent and purposes, Hanks went solo for almost 75% of the movie and it kept my interest the whole time...there aren't many actors who can pull that off.

Agreed to posts. Wife doesn't hate it - just she thinks it's average.

Saw it in theatres over Christmas break my freshman year at LSU. Thought it was incredible. Hanks was coming off of The Green Mile recently, and could do no wrong in my book.

Ever notice the name isn't Castaway, as in someone deserted on an island? Rather, it is Cast Away, two words...as in society "casts" him away after his unbelievable return. I always thought that was interesting.

The math he did on that rock to figure out the size of the search area when he first got to the island blew my mind. How's this fedex guy gonna pull some college algebra/geography outta his arse like that to scratch out on a rock that the search area is bigger than texas?

Awesome movie.

Helen

This is why women don't like it. It's a chick flick theme but involves the man. She's "happy" but will always wonder what if. He is just crushed but has endured so much he can gut it out and push through.

In the end you're a little envious of him. Just a guy and a car and a ball. Whole fricking country to explore. Also, can look at it as he is now sad and aimless??

I think at the beginning of the movie it shows his sailing awards and competitions. It was on his desk

People were crying when the damn ball washed off in the ocean. Any actor who can make people cry over a volleyball deserves a hall of fame award

Maybe you're lucky, maybe she's loyal.

I know some women and most guys hated Helen Hunt's character.

It's one thing to move on, it's another thing to stay moved on when the supposed love of your life is still alive. She didn't give him barely the time of day...One day and a cup of coffee? WTF? So you remarried, but you can't spend a week with your former fiancee to figure things out?
