Frats is just buying friends, and usually not very good ones.

some of them seem like good friends to me. I have noticed that some of them are not good people at all though

Unless you are in a fraternity or tried one out and have had a bad experience, people on the outside looking in always make this statement with nothing to back it up.
I for one joined a fraternity and had an awesome experience, and the money isn't paying for friends, it's paying for social events and parties and tailgates. All of which non fraternity guys try to sneak into.
I can understand contempt towards fraternities if you tried one and the guys of that chapter were huge dicks to you but if you haven't tried it or atleast rushed, then you really have zero room to talk.

I never understood the negative aspect of buying temporary "friends" that some posters like to bring up every time one of these threads are started. I lived the fraternity life. I'm several years removed from college, and yet a solid 30 of us have never lost touch with each other and still get together on a regular basis with our wives/girlfriends.
