Why the departure from that classic signature?

The title of the movie is in the song. That's Bond movies. That's the gig, you get the title and then right a song about it, that's the difficult part.

You don't just write a pop song.

Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace
Spectre

Only Skyfall managed to hold onto the standard.

Sure Octopussy was the the one blight from yesteryear but can you blame them?

Don't name a movie Quantum of Solace or Spectre if you can't write a Bond song to it.

Or get people who can write a song to it...I'm sure many could with Quantum of Solace.

These are just little things that have made modern Bond more Bourne and less classic.

You are really overthinking this.

This made me think of that horrible Madonna-late 90's- electropop Die another Day.

Outside of casino royale none of them feel like a bond film whatsoever so it's only appropriate they deviate from the canon even more. Though in fairness, good luck writing a song where the chorus has to include 'casino royale' or 'the quantum of solace.'

Skyfall was a prototypical Bond movie.

QoS theme ("Another Way to Die") was a solid Bond song. As stated before, working that title into it wouldn't have been easy.

Casino Royale's and Spectre's themes were garbage. Skyfall was clearly the most classic in all respects.

I agree about the song choices completelyy. They set the tone for the movie.

Skyfalls theme was good for sure. It reminded me of the old Bassey themes. I actually liked You Know My Name but the Spectre theme was terrible. Sam smith was cringeworthy at the Oscars, I felt embarrassed for him.

It just doesnt work, he looks the part but it doesnt work. Bond movies are supposed to be fun, clever, exciting not dark and brooding.

Radiohead recorded a song called Spectre for the movie. They went with Sam Smith's crap.

The original Quantum of Solace theme did contain the word solace in the lyrics.

"No Good About Goodbye" was written by David Arnold (the composer of Bond at the time) and was set to be performed by Amy Winehouse. After her death, it was recorded by Shirley Bassey.

Spectre's theme is the only miss of the Craig Quadrilogy, not counting "Another Way to Die."
