Aside from Bolt, the only other time I remember this hype surrounding track was during the Michael Johnson/Donovan Bailey era. I think they did a 1-on-1 race where Johnson pulled up lame.

I'm guessing it was in the Skydome...I wonder how many were there for that.

There was huge hype for the following

Jenner
Moses
Lewis
Nehemiah
O'Brien
Johnson


All of those guys were stories when they ran in big meets. Moses was probably most scrutinized due to his unbeaten streak that was snapped in the Olympics.

the hype was bigger back then imo. Praise/hyperbole regarding Bolt and his all time status is not the same as "hype" for the sport. Like swimming isn't getting boost from Phelps, we watch the Olympics every 4 years and don't care about most of these sports other wise.
