Question - wall construction materials

I moved into a new house earlier this year. Soon after moving in, I started putting various things up on the walls. I had a stud-finder but it went haywire everywhere I used it. So I bought a new one, and the same thing happened. No matter where I drill, I hit something solid about 1/2" deep. I can drill continuously and make no progress through it. Does anyone know what's going on here?

does your new house have an atm near the front door?

Could be hitting metal studs.
Or could be the metal protectors they put over water and electrical lines.

It seems to be the entire wall on every wall I've tried so far. I go up, down, left, and right and get the same result.

Since you have attempted to drilled a hole already, can you not see what you are hitting? Open the hole up a bit more. The damage is already done form the attempted hole.

New construction or new to you? I was in a house yesterday that had sheetrock over brick.

try a wall in another room, if you get the same result, find a discreet area, in a closet maybe, and cut a small square out to see what it is, it's easy to repair, I bought a house in repo once that had 5/8" plywood on the walls between the sheetrock and the studs, you never know, maybe the original owner was a survivalist and lined the studs with titanium

New to me. This would make a lot of sense.

I'll have to try this.

It seems I would still be able to drill through plywood. I can put all of my weight into the drill and go for 10+ seconds and get nowhere.

Have you been in the attic?

Only briefly. What should I look for?

The best walls are the ones you make Mexicans pay for.

See if you can look down at the top plate, may have to move some insulation. May be able to see wall material.

I think it's plywood. I bored out a hole in the closet a little farther.

You've got a solid house.
Plus, you can hang a picture anywhere.

Is this more common in older houses?

Sounds like you have no idea what you are doing?
Posted on 8/21/16 at 1:55 pm to LSUsuperfresh
I would guess it is wood paneling. Not sure why anyone would have plywood on the inside...

You probably have shiplap or some variant.
