What is more ruin-some: taking a pill every day or losing your life to depression?

I've known people who became worse off because of anti depressants, and one who committed suicide as a result.

I'm sure your anectdotal evidence is way, way better than the randomized controlled trials and metanalyses that doctors have been doing for the past 50 years

You know why they committed suicide? Because they were depressed.

compared to the much higher percentage of people who's lives were better after they started taking these meds? People don't commit suicide because of these pills, it's because of the mental problem they already had. Different people have different chemical balances in their head which can sometimes be more genetics than their way of life or their approach on life. Which is why you see some people who are depressed when nothing wrong is going on. Their brains just don't balance the serotonin like most people.

Read some books on this shite and stop posting your false opinions.

Taking those pills (Lexapro) did nothing for my anxiety/depression. It may have treated the symptoms but did nothing for the root of it.

Leading a healthy, fit and truthful lifestyle is what changed my life. It was amazing how much better my life got once I started facing the facts and working out/eating better.

ETA: Not saying they are not good for some people.

To form a strong opinion of a topic, you must first educate yourself in all facets to spew damning comments. I'm sorry that you know someone that you suspect committed suicide due to SSRI use. I can tell you that depression is a real illness, no matter the iteology (genetics, head injury, drug abuse, etc). The OLD school adage of quit being a pussy, work out, eat better and feel better, rub some dirt on it panty-waste doesn't work....all of those things mentioned plus others not (religion, etc) can minimize and/or manage it for some people, but for others, not so much....there are many factors why SSRI's are not effective, but one of the main reasons is not understanding the pathophysiology of the disease and how the meds work....in today medical world where you turn patients through the door in 15min for billing, coupled with the meds handed out....the education is not there, so you end up with bad experiences and perceptions of what causes negative outcomes. The leading reason of most failures is non compliance in taking the med as designed....SSRI's take 2-3 weeks to get to therapeutic levels...they are not instant miracles but they help in most cases....require you to really take stock of how you feel....but you should never place a tag on someone, no matter the cause, as being able to help it or being lazy....that's short sighted. It's a real disease that affects millions every day....all drugs have side effects....are the side affects worse than sleeping your life away? Or worse? It's ok to have an opinion, just be educated about it before you label someone....
