What are you interested in?

Rainey street >>>> 6th street

Austin beer works is great. As is Jester King if you're into that style of beer. I lean towards ABW because I can bring anyone there and they'll have a beer they enjoy, can't say that about Jester King.

Bangers sausage house and beer garden is one of my favorite spots in Austin. Top tier beer lineup. Lots of cool bars for cocktails up and down Rainey. If on 6th, my favorite place is Easy Tiger.

Food wise, Torchys is a must if you've never been, whip in for awesome Indian food and beer lineup in an old gas station. Frank Resturant for brunch and a great Bloody Mary among other cocktails. Ramen tatsu-ya for the best ramen in the city and the best I've ever had.

The masses behind Yelp really do help you in a young, progressive city like this. Enjoy.

Franklin is fantastic, but there's no BBQ worth wasting hours upon hours in line waiting for IMO.

I second this. The trailer park, trashy style is a must. Check out their secret menu.

This.

Not in Austin. We found a BBQ place that was an old historic building? It was on 2nd pretty close to the Willie Nelson statue. Just a random, nice, damned good Bbq place. Is it as good as Franklin? I seriously doubt it, but I walked right in and got a table for the wife and I. Had a beer in my hand and wine for the wife in less that 3 minutes.

Too many good breakfast joints to waste a morning sitting in a line for lunch.

If OP is 21-26 of course 6th street and try to slay college poon.

Over 27? Bringing a woman? Rainy Street.

Also we stayed at the new JW Marriott. It is a great hotel and has a great hotel bar and restaurant. We ended every night there.

P.Terrys if you want a good, cheap burger. Really good milkshakes too. IF your looking for Louisiana type cuisine, go to Evangeline Cafe. They usually have live music on the weekends. Owner is a nice guy and will come introduce himself

Rainey Street is terrific for bar-hopping.

- Banger's is a good spot for brunch on Sunday. All of the tables are communal/long picnic tables and the wait-time can get long.

- Lucille might be my favorite spot on Rainey. Good, but not great, cocktails at an affordable price and you'll find a lot of dogs roaming around outside.

- When you're drunk, hop across the street to Big Fat Greek Gyros. Sunday is my "cheat day" for eating, and this is a must-stop for me.

- Icenhauer's is awesome, too. While most of the bars on Rainey are converted bungalow houses, Icenhauer's inside is really set up as a "house." On Sunday, there's a cover band outside that is really popular.

- Container Bar is unique as it is literally made out of shipping containers with a common space in the middle. Solid spot.

- Next door to that is Bungalow, which has a food truck out back and great prices on drinks.

- El Naranjo, next door to Icenhauer's, makes a great margarita. Very strong.

It's hard to go wrong with anything on Rainey Street. Good crowds at every bar and having a patio at each place is prime.

I like the giant stein mimosa. I also like how laws apparently require them to serve food with it, so if you order it first, you have to order a biscuit or something with it

Called the 'Manmosa,' I think, and they use an entire bottle of champagne.

Ya, I pounded that thing at Sunday brunch. I'm pretty sure I'll order that every time I'm there. You leave some where between buzzed and 'fricked up"

I'm sold. There goes Sunday

Not to be a pain in the arse but what about things other than eat and drink. I read about the bats but wanted a locals opinion.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, I've only been here a few months and the last couple I couldn't go out much.

The Sunday brunch is a jazz brunch as well IIRC.

You can also go down to Fredericksburg and slam some wine tasting/see the Hill Country. Can also visit some of the greenbelts, natural springs and such in the area.

If you have too much time, I think it's kinda neat to see some of the views the people have at the top of the hills in Northwest Hills have over the Colorado River. It looks like California
