quote:Part B literally says she's assaulting the cop, so no, you can't rationally say it's defending, when he's actually saying she's breaking a law in doing so.
I'm rational, and I can take the above as defense, even with the part B.
quote:By saying she's assaulting the cop...
On page 1 he says he's not defending her actions, then his next two posts do exactly that.

However, as I've gotten older, I've realized that 1) Bad and unfair situations arise 2) I can only control my own actions.
If an officer asks me to do something, I may be well within my rights to decline. However, my exercising of my rights is going to cause more headaches than if I had just complied with his request.
Yeah this is probably the mentality of most people. I know a police officer can frick my world up with the quickness, so I follow along, but all too often you see people give them a pass because the "victim" should have just complied. I'd like to think we're capable of criticizing both the civilian's actions and those of LEO, when necessary.

There is no victim here.

Find a different thread to do it in, this LEO did nothing wrong. There's a reason the bitch in the car got probation and community service.

they should not be treated any differently or harshly because they exercised their rights
They shouldn't, but some officers choose to do so. At that point, all we can do as a citizen is decide "I don't feel like dealing with the potential ramifications, so I'll just roll down my window" or "I'm going to exercise my rights and take this up in a court of law after the fact"
I'd rather just roll down the window than go through the hassle of court, repairing a smashed window, etc...
It is what it is. Officers mishandling situations will always occur, no one is perfect at their job. I can combat this by making a choice to not mishandle that situation myself.

But the person that does exercise that right, when their rights are violated, I am going to side with them. Yes, had they complied with the unlawful orders, their lives would be easier. But when it comes to that, we should not be focusing on that nearly as much as we do, rather we should be focusing on the officer who didn't allow that person to exercise their rights. THat's my main issue.
quote:Again, I agree. But when the officer does mishandle it, we should be calling out the officer for doing so, not calling out the person for not handling it how we would have.

Perhaps some of us are of the opinion that the officer didn't mishandle the obnoxious count.

We can, however during the confrontation is not the time to do so, in my opinion.
Just like Alton Sterling, he may not have deserved to be taken down and cuffed, but during that confrontation was not the time address his grievance with law enforcement.
My only interaction with law enforcement during my 31 years on this planet has been for speeding tickets. I know I wasn't speeding for a couple of those tickets, but I provided my info, I signed my ticket, told the officer to have a good day and addressed my concerns/complaints in court.
Can I rightfully handle that situation differently? Possibly, but why escalate a situation if I don't have to, regardless if the officer is wrong or being an arse?
ETA: If I was really dead set that the officer was blatantly out of line, I'd also file a formal complaint. I've never done this, but I understand it's another avenue of justice I have available to me that doesn't involve me getting shot or arrested.

See my post you quoted, see the discussion dcrew and I were having. It had nothing to do with this specific incident.
Pretty much every thread ever that goes on for a few pages will evolve from the initial OP, this one is no different. Not sure why you're hung up on that.

Fair enough, but you can't expect every reply to be about the OP and the OP only when many comments are very general.

Probably because at least two people have straight up said "I haven't watched the video, but ... "
Make another thread for your general discussion. This thread is about this incident.

With you I don't expect it.

I'm just replying to other posters' general comments(with my own general comments), who you're oddly not calling out for the thread evolving.

I wasn't the first one to digress from the OP, but alas, you don't really care, do you?

I guess you just can't read very well. I've called out several people for that.

It's just funny that there are just many posters on the other end making general arguments, and he hasn't called out any of those that are stating, "just comply and do whatever the cop says."
Not a 1 of them have gotten called out for their general comments. I wonder why?

They were talking about the video.

drews and I had a very broad discussion on this page, probably the last one as well.
You called me out, but not him. Are you stating it's just a pure coincidence that you called me out but not him?
At least own it man, at least own it.
