Got any Colt 1911 experts here?

Looking at a 1977 built Colt Series 70 MK IV with a G70 suffix serial number. No obvious signs of abuse but it is showing its age. Finish looks more neglected than abused. I know less than Zero about 1911s. Anything specific I should look at? What would be a fair price? What price would would change the deal from fair to stealing it?

I would guess around $750 but I'm really don't know with any certainty.

That's about around where I was thinking...
Looks fairly clean for an older gun. Not a major idiot mark either... I've seen much worse...
Check for slack in the barrel link and pin where it holds it to the barrel.
There's really not a whole lot that wears out on these. Why else you think they've lasted for over 100 years?
May need a new firing pin and recoil spring...
If you can get it for under $800 you did good.
Under $700 even better...
Closer to $600 would be a steal in my book.

You can get a new one like it for 921 on Buds. I'd google function checks for series 70 and use those checks to test the safeties, etc. check barrel to bushing fit. Pistol will rattle but barrel bushing fit is key for accuracy.. I'm far from knowing much, but that's what I'd check. I'd go 650-700 I guess. Nice gun.

That's what I forgot to add... Knew there was something else important...
Maintenance day at work. Just got home... I'm whipped.

Slide seems difficult to slide back if the hammer is cocked. At least difficult compared to my P226/P228

While that is true, nothing beats owning an older Colt 1911 that's in good shape.
I have a 74 Gold Cup and an 89 Delta Elite. Nothing quite like them...
Although I may be getting a new production Delta Elite since they're now building them on the old (now discontinued) Colt XSE line that has a lot of bells and whistles...

One of the great things about these is that it's as easy to get parts for them as it is an AR.

I hear you on the old stuff, I'm always looking. As to that newer Delta, would you say that's a better buy than the old style pistol with wood grips there're selling right now? Thx. The colts have invpcreased in price in the last year.

It will be stiffer with an uncocked hammer for sure.

Field stripped it in not sure this gun has been shot enough to be broken in yet. Lockup is tight. Doesn't look like there is any wear at the bushing to barrel interface. But the slide feels like it sticks in the last 1/4" of travel. From what I have read it just needs to be taken out and shot to smooth the action out. $650 sound like a good price. Debating this one or one of the cheap 1911s that are on the market now. Love the Colt name. Just not a fan of nickel plated guns.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat for $650.
Are there any nicks in the nickel? It looks more like polished stainless to me.

Nice looking gun, DeoreDX. Wish I could immediately give you a $$ value, but I don't know enough to tell you. I do have a few other suggestions if you don't mind doing a little research:
1. The gold standard for gun values is "The Blue Book of Gun Values." There's a chance your local library will have it.
2. Check out prices for similar guns on Gun Broker, Guns America and other similar web sites.
3. The Gun Digest webesite has some resources available, including one where you pay a few books to get the value of the specific gun downloaded to you.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

That gun is stainless, no? I'd buy that over a Cheapo all day and twice on Sunday.

Yeah, stainless. It's a lot more polished in person than it looks in the picture. The scentence was supposed to read I'm not a fan of the polished nickle plated look but my brain got caught between edits and phucked it up

10 4. I'd buy. I've got a stainless series 70 I bought new and love it, it goes where I go.
