Ordering Salads in Restaurants?

I'm eating more and more healthy, and lately this leads to awesome salads. Most restaurants nowadays really seem to be stepping their games up in the salad department. They're absolutely massive and piled with everything you could imagine.
However, (and I understand presentation is something all these chefs get off to on the Food Channel) none of them mix it up anymore! They're all piled high with an uncut chicken breast, long tomatoe slices, etc and a cup of salad on the side. It's absurdly difficult to mix on the tiny plate/bowl without getting it everywhere.
Is it trashy and/or a dick move to ask them to cut everything up and toss it in one of their big bowls in the bag? A friend of mine got a specialty "prepared table side" salad the other day, and I was so jealous. Them making it next to us added absolutely nothing to the experience, but I was so pissed it was all tossed and ready.
Thoughts? Am I the only one struggling with this? I know, nb4 asking people to toss my salad jokes.

I completely relate to this, I like salads that I can "stab" with my fork and eat.

Most restaurant salads are not exactly good for you. Beware.

No doubt. I stay away from the crappy restaurants with salads that are nothing but mayonnaise and sugar.

I'm really not sure what you're talking about.

I feel your pain. I love salads in restaurants, I watch carbs and calories, so I have to be careful, no croutons, dressing on the side. If they don't have a dressing that suits me, just bring oil and vinegar cruets.
I don't want them to mix it for me, I like seeing all the ingredients piled on top so I know I'm getting what I paid for. So I cut up that chicken breast and mix it as best I can. As for as who has good salads for everyday lunching, Brubacher's salads are usually filling and not too expensive.
