Any where in Louisiana.

Get a recommendation from your child's primary care physician.

If you want the best, it's going to be Dr. Anil Nanda at LSUS.
Anyone who says different doesn't know what they are talking about

Allison Conravey, Children's Hospital in New Orleans
ETA: We were highly impressed with the neurology staff at Children's.

If you are in New Orleans Dr. Fawad Kahn is very good, but there is usually a 2 to 3 month waiting list for new patients.

I liked Barbara Golden in Baton Rouge, but it's been 16 years since we've used her.
My favorite was Garrett Burris, but he's in St. Louis.

Same. Great doctors and nurses. Didn't meet Dr. Conravey, but we used Dr. Lori Mcbride. Would highly recommend her as well.

"Best" will be pretty subjective here. Most of the individual recommendations you're going to get in this thread will be doctors we saw and liked, not an actual assessment of the talent across Louisiana and elsewhere. It's not like any of us sought out B-grade doctors to operate on our children's heads, though.

Is there a reason you can't make the short drive to Houston for your child's brain? we thought Childrens in NOLA was ok too until we went elsewhere. There's a reason why children's in Nola is not ranked highly in any category.

Nanda is indeed really good. Kalra isn't bad. Pena is great when you get to see him. Davis is new to the area, from Boston, and she seems to be doing a good job so far. I'm not sure if Thompson or Gulick see kids anymore. Gulick is a legit genius. Graduated HS at 12, LSU at 16, and med school at 20.

in our experience, the pediatric neurologists in BR suck.
We like Dr. Flatt in Covington. He runs his own practice.

Oh, if the OP meant neurosurgeon, I have no experience.

That has been my impression as well.

I didn't even think of that as a separate practice, so the doctor I recommended might not even be applicable.

He's a neurosurgeon, not sure if he's what the OP is actually looking for. Our daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 12(10 years ago) and tried a couple docs locally at LSUHC(shreveport) and weren't happy with them...Nanda wasn't an option. We found a doc in Monroe...Dr. Aristoteles Pena-Miches and were very happy with how he treated her. JMO
She's still on medication to this day and will be for the rest of her life.
