Villafana is a good LB that could have allowed Johnson to move to LW. Lichaj is a good RB that at least would have provided cover for Yedlin when he got his red card.

Ok, so which of those moves would have changed the outcome of this tournament? And at ages 26 and 27, which one of those moves helps us build for the future?

If you want a more like for like switch with Beckerman, then use Danny Williams or Acosta.

They both add much needed depth to our outside backs. For this tournament, we brought one RB (Yedlin) and one LB (Castillo) and he didn't even play..

While leaving Orozco, Castillo, Birnbaum, or Beasler at home? All who also have at least 1 world cup left in them

You serious? Orozco and Castillo suck arse. Besler and Birnbaum are CBs and wouldn't be affected.

Ok so Morris for Wondo. And then who do the others replace?
You really don't know what positions those players play or what? Williams, McCarty, and Morales are better than Beckerman. Lichaj is a better left back or right back than anyone we brought except for Johnson, who could have played on the wing if he had been brought. Both he and Villafaña are much better left backs than Orozco. Lletget and Finlay are both more dynamic wingers than Zusi. Feilhaber is possibly the best American in MLS and plays a position of need (creative, attacking midfielder... But Jurgen doesn't like 10s as evidenced by Nagbe not playing). Even Sapong could be useful as a hold up guy. I get the feeling both you and Jurgen don't have a full grasp of the best players in our pool

Considering that we only brought two outside backs, adding another one would have pulled a spot from a CB. But again, adding which one of them would have changed the outcome of this tournament?

No, I'm just curious who you think should have been left at home. And how any of those players would changed the outcome of this tournament. Which of those players can you realistically point to and say he would have started and changed this tournament for us

I'm not a soothsayer bro
Probably none of them since Jurgen likes leaving dynamic players at home/on the bench.
Williams would have been much better than Beckerman, while Lichaj would have been much, much better than orozco and would have allowed us to change tactics a bit and push Johnson further up the field, where he plays with his champions league team. Those are the super obvious ones that I'm very, very confident about.

No I'm just saying that none of those players would have improved our 4th place finish. None of the players we left at home are going to play a major role at the World Cup for us in 2 years. Jurgen should have had a better strategy, but it's silly to think we left some game changing players at home. No one in our pool would have led to a win over Argentina or a better than 4th place finish

That's not the point. The point is that we need to get playing time and chemistry to players that will be impact players in 2018, not fricking Wondo, Beckerman, and Orozco. Do you really not understand our point? I think it's pretty obvious that we would still be expected to lose regardless of our lineup.

All of this....
Which makes me sad. We have a ton of options, Jurgen just decides to bring the worst ones.

Williams, Lichaj, Lletget, and Villafana could all be major starters or contributors by 2018, if Jurgen would give them a god damn chance

Having pretty much any player other than Orcozo at lb and our chances for the 3rd place game improved greatly. Morris, Lichaj will most definitely be in our WC plans. I'm not sure how often you watch sports, but the team that is that is the most skilled doesn't win 100% of the time. In the world of sports a team can win by having a good game plan, a line up that plays to their strengths, and ability to hold their shape. We had none of those. So you think we should have thrown in the towl and not even tried, although that's almost exactly what it looked like Klinnsmann did?

They could if Jurgen would bring them. Every player we mentioned is better than someone Jurgen brought to the Copa America.

Williams is the only one who may play a role. The other 3 have 3 senior league appearances combined since 20011. How can you realistically say they should have a major contributor at the world cup.
Posted on 6/26/16 at 11:41 am to FunkasaurusReb
No I'm not saying we should have just thrown in the towel. I'm saying with the options we have we did what we could. I know that it was a weak side, but we didn't have any real better options.

Because they are better than fricks like Orozco, Castillo, Wondolowski, Beckerman, and Zusi. It's really that simple.
