I have an uncle who came out of a surgery with complications of Dysphagia, which is an inability to swallow. The surgery was not related to his neck or esophagus but something happened that caused this issue. He didn't previously have this problem. Now he's having to be fed by a tube.

I'd read, online of course, that there have been successes using medical marijuana to overcome this condition. So maybe the OT knows something about it and also how it's administered to someone who can't swallow. Second, he's in Louisiana, so I'm not aware whether LA has or has not a medical marijuana law.

Any advice or medical experience here?

No medical marijuana laws in LA. Never heard of that but can't hurt, right? Get the old man some to burn

Cures cancer

At least that's what an article someone posted on Facebook says

I'm all for medical marijuana. But, I would suggest that before y'all consider finding a way to get legal pot, you bring him to an ENT and have them evaluate him medically and see if they can fix it either surgically or refer to a speech therapist.

I'm confused as to why he would need marijuana in this case. Would he need it to eat (but he can't swallow) because of lack of appetite??

Or, does he need it for the pain?

Louisiana has medical marijuana laws, but right now there is no way to dispense it. That is a couple of years off. You can't transport it across state lines to here, so I think your uncle is out of luck with that. I'm not kidding.

What type or surgery did he have? Gastric surgery? Hiatal hernia repair?

MM is suppose to cure everything. I would go see a specialist first. If MM was a wonder cure like the interwebz claim, it would already be legal. And I am for legalizing it, but it is not some great magic elixir. Go see someone who has spent their life studying systems of the human body.

While I can't find any studies directly using MMJ for Dysphagia, several components(cannabinoids) of marijuana work as antispasmotics, THC,CBD,CBN. You can order CBD products that can be shipped to any state. Only THC products are restricted. Try the cbdboutique.com.

As an ST, my advice is take him to an ST. SLP. whatever. Speech therapist = speech language pathologist it's all the same creds.

Never heard of medical MJ helping dysphagia...but I'm far from cutting edge in my field.
