After watching the highlight, this was perhaps the worst example of awful zonal marking on that goal. Not only does Brooks have a free header, because nobody checked his run, three other American players would have had a free header.
Brooks' header also bounces off the turf and could have been deflected had one of the Ghanaian defenders actually reacted, and the Ghanian keeper positioned himself in no-man's land. Zusi's corner was wonderful, but it's the kind of corner that normally gets cleared 20 meters ahead.
I remember thinking before the goal that Ghana seemed weirdly slow to get back to defend the corner--even after Fabian Johnson's run to earn the corner should have alerted the Ghanians, that the Americans still could break on the counter.
