Because you're missing the point. It needed to be a soft reboot from what they're planning on doing with the franchise. Yes, the plot is roughly ANH, but I think it had a better hero, a better villain (just off of ANH alone), a better sacrifice, a better lightsaber duel, and better final scene. I think it's second next to Empire and narrowly better than ANH.

Anyone saying Kylo was a better villain than Vader in any film needs to get their head checked. He just isn't. Vader steals the scene, there is no conflict, the dude was 100% bad and you know it. Kylo is just angry, with a cool outfit.

Bottom line about this movie was that it was for people that enjoyed the originals. It was supposed to be a reboot, a shot in the arm, and to me, they actually did a good job. It wasn't a great movie though, but for what it was, I found it very enjoyable.
