Is your girlfriend someone you can see yourself marrying or she is the girl you want to marry? If the answer is yes you need to go.

That's not what I was meaning
I was implying that if he plans on marrying her he should go. She wants him there to show off. It means a lot to her for him to be there.
It may suck but life is full of doing shite you don't want to do. I'm sure she has probably done stuff with him that didn't seem fun for her.
If she hasn't and she is just a casual relationship it isn't worth going.

Fly so you can make it without taking a day to drive.
Problem solved.

I would love an excuse to take a Friday off and get some hotel sex, but that's just me I guess. Is your girl a prude? Are you on hourly and get docked for taking a day off? Some of yall seem like some real sour people, jeez.

Your gf is extremely selfish. If you go, do not expect any reward from her. No good deed goes unpunished. What a load of horseshite this has become for you.

Because she wants her live in boyfriend to go to a wedding with her? Seems like you have a low standard for selfishness.

We already have shite vacation in this country. I wouldn't waste it on someone I barely know. Who has Friday wedding anyways??

Mass and availability, I believe. Something about not allowing them on Saturdays in the late afternoon.

My girlfriend's best friend is being married in July. Her wedding is on a Friday, she is having the reception with family and friends on the Saturday afternoon the next day.
I've met the bride and husband twice in my life. My girlfriend and I live 7 hours away. We're driving separately already because she has to be there Wednesday to get things ready for the wedding. I told her I didn't want to take a vacation day Friday and would rather go up Friday night and be there for the reception and rest of weekend.
She thinks I should be there for the wedding. I think, don't schedule a Friday wedding and expect for out of town acquaintances to be there.
The wife and I went through something similar last Fall except that the wedding and reception were on the same day (Saturday) and it was in Albuquerque. My wife being who she is would have been okay with my not going, but I went anyway (mainly for free food/booze and check-ins/pics at Breaking Bad sites).
Considering you have a job and aren't that close to them you are being perfectly reasonable in not wanting to go until Friday night. If she pressures you just use the excuse that you will have to take a vacation day to let her know you won't be spending that much extra time with her on your actual vacation.

I've never been to a wedding that was so much fun that it would have been worth 14 hours of driving.
That's a totally separate discussion. Why he's driving like a poor is way beyond me. 7 hours is way past my weekend drive limit so I'm def flying regardless of what we're doing.
The majority of responses in this thread are so funny and dumb, and they also always come up when Friday's are discussed. Everything divulges into dumbass brides and shitty planning (which I agree in regards to the wedding).
Everyone goes on long weekends with their gf's for hotel sex. That's all this is.

I skipped my sister in laws wedding last year when my boss came up with a bunch of Bama/LSU tickets for the office and i am still paying for tha one but your reasoning seems solid.

I dont think either of you is "wrong." I would likely take off to go to the wedding. But I dont think you are being too unreasonable. But me personally, I would be there for my girlfriend if she wanted me there for a close friends wedding
Ditto.

quote:I mean, he's having to miss 1 day of work and do 14 hours of driving by himself to attend 2 days of ceremonies for people he's met once or twice. If she's really giving him hell, that is kind of selfish on her part if she doesn't understand why he'd want to drive up Friday night.
Because she wants her live in boyfriend to go to a wedding with her? Seems like you have a low standard for selfishness.
It's not like he's trying to skip the entire thing, which is 100% what I'd do, i'm not driving 14 hours, no chance.

Is your girlfriend a bridesmaid?

No you are not being unreasonable. She is. Does she have a history of doing things like this to you? If so, divorce immediately and replace.
ETA: I lack reading comprehension.
Break up immediately and replace.

Tell her you took off and then have something come up last minute. She'll probably still blow a groomsman, but it'll look like you tried
you probably just made him think a vacation day isn't so bad after all.
