quote:

was noted via John Gruber’s interview with Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi, that iMessage, at peak times, sees 200,000 messages being sent per second. Looking from the outside, it would seem that it would be in Apple’s best interest to keep such a popular service locked down to its own ecosystem. But if Apple truly plans to open up iMessage beyond its own walls, then it probably has a fairly compelling reason for doing so. It’s a reason that we’ll likely learn more about next week.

It's so they can break it out on the balance sheet and show it as an area of growth.

Doesn't I message show you when the recipient reads your message?

This is interesting in the same way that Google making an iOS keyboard with their integrated search engine was.

The more cross compatibility the better imo

This is good for people doing group messages with Android users. I have a group text with two people on Android and not all of their messages will go through to me. I'll get a bunch of random messages every time I reset my phone. This doesn't happen with IMessage, so it'll be a nice upgrade
