Anyone know where I can buy sod direct from the guy who grows it? Or is that even an option. I'm located in Thibodaux. I thought you could buy from someone around donaldsonville. What price am I looking at for a pallot of st aug? How many sq feet on a pallot. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are some sod farms around Abita Springs and south of Natchez. Might be able to contact them directly.

You could check with Lafayette Materials. I've got garden soil and drainage rock from them but not sure if they carry sod

Not in your area, but i bought a few pallets of St. Aug a year ago from a place in Lacombe and it was around $135 delivered per pallet

Used to be a guy in St Amant not sure if he is still around.

I'd call Woerner.

Look for a sod wholesaler locally. Each pallet is a 50yd or 450sqft. Each square is 16" X 24". Normally you can get the best deal if you purchase the entire truck (20 pallets). Not sure how big of an area you are looking for.

I would target sub 200.00 if buying a large quantity.

I need about 9,000 sq ft. I was told I could cut cost by laying it in a checker board pattern. Would this work and look good overtime?
I'm also willing to go pick up the sod myself

In short, no. Just spend the money and do it solid. Instant yard. The other way is uneven, difficult to mow, weeds grow in between, it's a mess. I would rather seed the back and sod the front solid.

If your buying 9000 sqft (a whole truckload you should get a good deal). If your laying it now (worst time of year) be prepared to water twice a day. You will not be able to water it enough. Cut it as high as possible to shade the soil as much as possible.

Well as of now after the dirt work was done I am left with a little bramuda and a lot of weeks. Would I just be better off spraying the weeks and seeding more bramuda or bite the bullet and go st aug. I know seeding would be cheaper short term but would I be able to establish it to a good looking yard with bramuda. I have access to all the good chemicals.

Spray it and lay down Augustine. Bermuda would look alright but not near as good. Plus it's the worst time of the year to try and grow grass from seeds.

Belle sod is in Donaldsonville, you can buy directly from them. A1 turf in br is a wholesaler who will sell to you especially if you are ordering a whole truck (20 pallets)

Do not checkerboard, you'll hate it and kick your arse every time you mow.

Centepiede is cheaper than st Aug and will tolerate sun much better. St aug will handle shade a lot better. If yard wide open no trees use centipede, if shady with trees st aug is way to go.

As other said this is worse time of year to plant without irrigation. You will need to spend several hours a day watering and moving hoses.

Good luck
