Who is currently the best swordsman in Game of Thrones?

And/or warrior or fighter?
I think Selmy had that title until his death. Who has it now? For simplicity let's keep it to characters who are still alive in both the show and the book.

Robert Strong probably.

I really would have loved to see that fight if the Lannister guard didn't backstab Ned, but it looked like Jamie had the upper hand.

Since Syrio is likely dead, probably some water dancer in bravos.

Only because Ned would have warned Jaime about every swing of his sword before he made it.

I would think that would have to go to Loras now. They compare him to a young Jaime and Jaime is minus his sword hand.
Best warrior/fighter would be Robert Strong feeling no pain with the strength of the Mountain.

Jaime was a significantly superior fighter to Ned. Jaime at the beginning of the series was among the best 3 or 4 knights in Westeros. I was talking about this with a friend recently and here is what we came up with. We limited this to Westeros swordsmen, so Strong Belwas and the Dothraki aren't ranked.
Arthur Dayne - Jaime and Barristan (both highly skilled knights) praise his skill a ton. He can singlehandedly take down multiple trained opponents at one time. Possible GOAT swordsman.
Ser Gregor Clegane - probably not the most finesse in the world, but he sheer size and strength likely puts him above nearly anyone else in single combat. We don't know if or how much his "resurrection" has impacted his ability.
Ser Jaime Lannister - One of the most highly regarded Knights in the realm pre hand loss. He has won the melee a multiple tournaments and generally intimidates people.
Ser Barristen Selmy - A huge badass. Once went Middle Ages commando and snuck into a city to rescue Aerys by himself. Age has probably become a bit of a factor by the start of the show.
Robert - Young Robert was a complete badass who basically lived to fight and frick.
Rhaegar - Won multiple tournaments. Had an epic fight with Robert but lost.
Then there's kinda a significantly tier of really good knights that is hard to sort out - Sandor Clegane, Brienne (who is hard to rank because the show portrays her as more skilled than the books), Oberyn, Brynden Blackfish (age is an issue at this point), Loras Tyrell and probably more.

The mountain isn't a good swordsman he's just strong. The answer is Brienne

Sansa would tell Jaime all of Ned's strategies before the fight

He's a jouster. He would get his arse kicked by everyone in the thread in a REAL fight

Brienne is certainly better than Loras, so I'm going with a no on that.

Snow - look at all the people he's fought.
No one else could go sword to sword against an officer in the white walker army. He turned that general into ice cubes.
Selmy got destroyed by the Sons of the Harpy.
Loras couldn't fend off the sparrows.
Mountain was beaten by Oberyn.
Brienne only beat the Hound and Stannis when they were compromised.
Snow has defeated the best of the best (Tormands Bane, the scarface wilding, and general ice man).

Jon isn't really a very good swordsman. He was saved at Crasters Keep by a wildling after being owned.
And against the WW he was again owned. Valariyan Steel saved him. He wasn't a better fighter. That's like giving credit to Sam for being a good fighter because he killed a WW
