Great Americans take stands that may be unpopular at the time, they just don't blindly follow immoral orders ... that's what we prosecuted the Germans for after WWII.

You are a pussy.

You should have your arse kicked for comparing the Vietnam War to the Holocaust, and insinuating that those who served in the War were the moral equivalent of those who perpetrated the Holocaust. You basically just managed to insult tens of millions people (American servicemen, and Holocaust victims) by saying that.

There weren't any Nuremberg trials for the Vietnam War to substantiate what you're saying. Read a book, you walking cliche.

American draftees were put in a really tough position. It is a dark period in our history, but it's far from a black and white situation, morally, unlike the Holocaust. The irony is that there is nearly literal international law jurisprudence that relates to "blindly following immoral orders", and it was established at Nuremberg. 99.9% of Americans who served in Vietnam were not guilty of war crimes or genocide.

Those that lost their lives over there were heroes, and those that came back didn't deserve the reception they got. I can't stand it when millennial twats think shite like that is an enlightened opinion.

bullshite

I never even mentioned the Holocaust. You seriously have a coloring book interpretation of war history if that was the only thing that popped into your mind.

do you even Nuremberg what we considered war crimes? Basically anybody in charge of the war of aggression against the West - for starting it and participating it - by Germany...

Nuremberg indictments...

1. Participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of a crime against peace - war
2. Planning, initiating and waging wars of aggression and other crimes against peace - being in the military for Germany
3. War crimes
4. Crimes against humanity

Same with the (IMTFE) for Japan.

...and we started Vietnam too, had leaders who planned or conspired to wage war, invade...participated in other crimes against peace, documented war crimes (my lai) and documented crimes against humanity...napalm bombing of civilian villages.

But it suits you to draw moral lines and say one was bad, this is good...because flag...if we start a war against a foreign country...for political and mostly economic gain, cool...but go ahead and defend a war that nobody, even those who ran it and orchestrated it defend it anymore. Vietnam was an atrocity for all involved, those who died serving and those who died at the hands of the US.

“Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go ten thousand miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?

No, I am not going ten thousand miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would put my prestige in jeopardy and could cause me to lose millions of dollars which should accrue to me as the champion.

But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is right here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality…

If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. But I either have to obey the laws of the land or the laws of Allah. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail. We’ve been in jail for four hundred years.”

The only reason anyone brings up "prosecuting" Germany is to pull some weak arse Godwin's Law argument on a message board, like small minded retards like yourself do. The intent in you doing that is to conjure up images that are extreme. Regardless of one's opinion on the matter, no we did not instigate the Vietnam War. The only aspect of substance that you cited when you Google'd the trial was the war crimes bit. Comparing 1960s America with 1930s Germany is beyond absurd, but you are an especially terrible poster so I guess it's not a surprise.

He was a good guy, a good father, and a great fighter.

He got some bad advice from his new friends in the Black Muslim movement that caused some friction with the US Govt. People should not hold that against him today. Ali paid a price for that. The Army would have put him on exhibition, coaching Army boxing and the like. Nobody was going to send Ali into combat against his will. He followed bad advice.

He also said inappropriate racist things about some of his opponents. He has apologized for that and made peace with Foreman and Frazier, the targets of his insults. We can't hold that against Ali today.

We've got to recognize the true nature of this man's life's work. When we do this rationally and with an open mind, the only conclusion is what I already stated: He was a good guy, a good father, and a great fighter.

He was certainly the Greatest of his time, and maybe the Greatest of All Time.

WHAT??

The ONLY Ali fight that I ever heard anybody wonder about is his second fight with Sonny Liston. It's crazy to state "many of his fights were rigged." That's just crazy.

Our young military men did a fine job in Vietnam. I enjoy telling them whenever I have the privilege to meet them. It was a very tough war against a tough and experienced enemy.

Our young Soldiers and Marines very often were actually OUT NUMBERED in many of the battles! The infantry units were all very understrength -- from what my own research so for reveals to me, our infantry battalions often went into action when they were over one-third understrength.

I'm very proud of what our Soldiers and Marines accomplished on the ground in Vietnam. I'm proud of them as a US citizen and as a US Army Officer. I do condemn those who committed acts against our common notions of humanity. These poor souls will have to live with their guilt to the end of their days. BUT they are but a small percentage, and I prefer to remember the good Soldiers and Marines.

Your comment is not racist at all, 3 million of us chose to go even though we were not ready to die for people we did not know. He could have gone with Bob Hope who IS a great American.
No athlete is my hero especially someone like him. My heroes are burie all over the globe. Having said that I hope he is at piece

SMH and LOL at any fricking idiot that thinks that Ali would have been front-line infantry.

All he would have had to do is wear a uniform, do PR, and raise the morale of troops.... Black, white, etc.

His Country asked that small task.... He said, "frick You."
