Look....the guy was incredible. Easily the greatest boxer of our time (at least in my opinion). I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But there is no denying how polarizing a figure he was.

Dude fought the best at their best and won most of the time.

Has my respect for what he did in the ring.

Probably the GOAT

Ali was vindicated by history, we all know that.... even from McNamara himself.

Great Americans take stands that may be unpopular at the time, they just don't blindly follow immoral orders ... that's what we prosecuted the Germans for after WWII.

Was he? I disagree.

I missed where JFK, LBJ, and Richard Nixon ordered the systematic murders of millions of Vietnamese civilians.

It's not like Ali took off to Canada, he refused to fight, got his punishment, and that was that. There is no way I can say anything about a black man not wanting to fight in a war for a country that despised him. And again may the champ rest in peace.

No thanks. I'd rather read a book by an actual historian. Karnow was a journalist and thus prone to sensationalism.

George W Bush was just as terrible an American for avoiding service in Vietnam. You must love John Kerry.

No he's a terrible American for starting a useless war in Iraq that cost trillions of American dollars and thousands of American lives.
