Although, the NCAA missed an opportunity here to really screw with Harbaugh and put guidelines on these camps.

"ok, Harbaugh, you say these camps are for the kids, right? Then how about we put requirements that each camp conducted must make highlights available for each kid in attendance, take all measurements (similar to nike camps with spark ratings) so they can easily upload them to the HUDL page and have more access to schools recruiting them?"

If I were the NCAA, I would have done this just to screw with him.

Yeah, I agree with your cynicism but hope for better in spite of the misleading sound bytes. Saban doesn't want satellite camps because:

1) he doesn't want more competition from other parts of the country
2) doesn't want other schools to get the kind of access to great talent that Alabama's recruiting budget allows.

But his argument is it is about the kids and staying on teh right side of enforcement.

Harbaugh wants camps because:

1) his school has the budget to support them - giving him a recruiting advantage over every school that can't afford this
2) it allows him to recruit more effectively in other parts of the country.

But his argument is it is about the kids gaining exposure and opportunity.

The two of them are, IMO, clearly arguing from positions of pure self interest and making bad rationalizations for hte public to receive. Neither one of those assholes cares about the kids as much as their own bottom lines.

Here's my argument.

1) The NCAA should step in to make sure the number of third parties with their fingers in the pie is limited. So that means rules for the camps about who can be there, who can fund them, and probably how many there can be so rational enforcement is possible.
2) The information from all of the camps must be fully available to all parties who make inquiries. This is a matter of self interest for schools so fifty odd schools don't have to all separately pay for massive recruiting budgets.

We can't fix every school needing separate on site athletic centers, tutoring centers, weight rooms, practice fields, and stadium upgrades - but we could cut a few million off the recruiting budgets for a lot of schools.

Some of the Alabama coaches are working a camp with Michigan next week. That should be interesting.

Harbaugh was in Tampa today at the USF camp. Along with numerous Michigan coaches.
