Where would Ali rank?

Where would he rank had he not been exiled? He was head and shoulders above ALL competition pre ban. He missed his prime. Lord only knows what boxing fans missed by not seeing Ali in his prime. What say the MSB?

I mean some of his best boxing came post pan so I'm not sure...3 years...he's still the best in my eyes. Ali was an animal.

2nd best fighter of all time, as he currently ranks IMO behind sugar Ray Robinson

He missed some of his prime, not all of it...at his own choosing I might add...this is not a Ted Williams situation where he missed 5 years of his prime to flying fighter planes and crash landing.
Personally I think Ali is a pretty garbage human being especially the way he treated Joe Frazier for years and years, especially after Joe was good to him during his ban. He was total scumbag to his wives also.
But I recognize his ability as a fighter. I don't really count his 3rd fight with Frazier as a big win. He and Dundee were about to throw in the towel. But he's still an all time great. He's defiantly top 5, maybe top 3.

I feel sorry for people that weren't around when Tyson was in his prime.
I'm not exactly the most knowledgable boxing fan but you didn't need to be to realize what you were seeing every couple months when the dude stepped into the ring with someone, was something extremely special.
I've seen some other great fighters and some fighting other great fighters. I've seen some great promoters and some great productions surrounding fights. But I've yet to see anything that comes close seeing Tyson destroy people even before stepping between the ropes.
His YouTube montage videos are amazing and give me the chills watching but it still doesn't show everything going on at the time.

If Cus D'Amato lived for another 15 years Tysons story would be totally different. Robin Givens and Don King ruined him.
On a side note Evander Holyfield was a bad motherfricker in his own right

not exactly
he chose not to kill brown people. being in prison was optional. the state didn't have to do that. it was defending the corrupt Vietnam fiasco.
War crimes. failure to comprehend the enemy.
a disaster from start to finish. all that political crap on top of a military operation.
Oh dear what would happen if we let him decide not to be a murderer?
If one can do it they all can do it.

Ali as a washed up bum by the mainstream press beating the GOAT at the the time (Tyson X 5) Foreman after he demolished Frazier is one of the most amazing sports accomplishments of all time.
Ali had the sports It.

Tyson was awesome because of his mystique and his amazing punching power. He was a Tasmanian Devil of pure power. But he was a little too wild--not accurate enough with some of those big punches. And at his small size(for a Heavyweight), all it was ever gonna take was a bigger guy with a nice jab and a longer reach who--and this was the biggest thing--was not intimidated by him.
After Buster Douglas whipped his arse, the mystique was gone, and he was exposed. It would have been nice to see how he would have done without losing Cus, marrying Robin Givens, and getting involved with Don King. Could have been a totally different career. But I still think he'd eventually have gotten exposed by the Riddick Bowes and Lennox Lewises of the world. They just had such a physical advantage.
He was the most exciting boxer who ever lived though. Maybe who ever will live, and I agree, I feel bad for people who didn't get to see him.

By the way, as boring as he was, I think you could make a strong argument that in his prime, Lennox Lewis was the best heavyweight of all time. Not the best career, but I think his best could beat anybody else's best. He was an efficient behemoth of a machine.

Teddy Atlas always said Tyson was a phony (granted Atlas had a rightful beef with Tyson after what Tyson did to his daughter) but Atlas predicted the Holy field ear bite...saying Holyfield owned Tyson in the first fight, "if Tyson is getting whooped early in the second fight he will do anything to get out of it...Tyson is a coward, he will find a way to DQ himself."

Ali would not have had to kill anyone. He would have been shot in combat.
He was scared.
All would have had to do is go to 'Nam and shake hands with troops. He could have been a hero and great for morale.
F him.

Every time I try to talk boxing, one of you pull Rocky Marciano outa their arse. Rocky Marciano this, Rocky Marciano that. Let me tell you something once and for all. Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Ali, Rocky Marciano ain't shite.
