WTF? You a marine sniper in Afghanistan? I cant even see that far.
I had dinner with an African PH with 35 years of experience. He said two things that night that have stuck with me:
1) The one thing we PHs are all afraid of is Lions. Do this long enough, and you WILL get chewed.
2) no matter the client, the gun, the situation, or the animal. Take a shot over about 300 meters, and you're just hoping it works out.
Dude was pretty grounded.

There's lotsssssss of people out there toting a .300 win mag with a night force scope who can barely hit a dart board at 300 off of a shooting bench and think they're capable at 500 out of a tripod in the middle of a cutover.
I consider myself pretty good at killing stuff, and beyond 300 yards isn't anything I'd try with my .30-06 unless I had time and a VERY good prop.
Much less, a .30-505 at a mile off a backpack and with 50% throat erosion every time I touched the trigger
