I hear you man. I can't stand the fact that we give significant screen time to women, minorities and gays. It just eats my soul that white men are as dominant as they used to be. I want my country back!

If people would quit going to shitty remakes (including stuff like Point Break, Robocop, Total recall) and ridiculous sequels like Fast & Furious 87 or Neighbors 2, then they would stop making them.

And now we're getting the 3rd reboot of Spiderman in like 13 years.

This is why I hate "popcorn movies" but for the people who don't like drama or serious films, I'm glad they at least have something to watch at the movies.

From a business perspective you're complaining about two different things

It's a principle of marketing that a new pop audience -- the youth demo that follows fashion trends, powers top 40 music, and buys tickets to superhero movies -- comes into existence every seven years. So when these comic book franchises "reboot" they are replacing their core audience.

Original scripts cost ten times more money to make, so they keep making sequels and remakes because they basically know exactly what they're going to need during preproduction. Even if a sequel flops and makes 30 million, they would be taking a much bigger financial risk on a new script.

There is also very few middle class budget movies any more. It's either 300 million or 3 million

Hollywood has not figured out what to with streaming. They use to be able to make up 25 million dollar bust with rents or cable but that isn't the case any more. So with their blockbusters they are trying cast the biggest net possible.

The movie, tv, arts, etc. industry is run by "artsy" individuals. Have you ever met artsy people before? They tend to think with their emotions and what feels good.

And yet, here are a couple of dudes bemoaning the state of motion pictures because it does things they think are "icky."

Original movies do not cost 10x more to make ... If anything you aren't beholden to a story point or look and can make budgetary minded decisions. There are plenty of mid size movies being made and I just finished a 30 million dollar project for Fox. It's a true story About woman behind the scenes at NASA during the Mercury 7 missions. Hopefully it will find an audience so the studios will continue to produce these kind of stories

"Popcorn movies" finance the movies you want to watch. They're a necessary evil.
