Better Horror Writer: King or Barker

Have to choose one of the two. And by best writer, i mean precisely that, has the best writing. Not who has the most iconic bibliography. That won't even be a debate.
I've read plenty of King and it's obviously good. Duma Key is my favorite I think.
But I just started reading Book of Blood by Barker and I've read a Hellbound Heart previously and they are outstandingly disturbing yet remain thought provoking.

King is the better story teller but Barker paints with words. He is the better writer.
Problem though is Barker hasn't been relevant for quite some time now.

Yeah, I am doing Book of Blood and have been looking for something else by him and I don't know what to go with.

Thief of Always is really good, though young adult
Damnation Game is another good one

King, but I'm kind of partial.

Barker by a mile, King is a goof who writes stuff he likes. And I love King but Barker for horror.

King.
Thomas Harris is also terrific.
Don't know who Barker is. Never heard of him.

King is my favorite author of all time.
And 4 of his books are in my top 10 favorite books of all time.

I like King. I appreciate the way his stories are not really about monsters and things that go bump in the night. I mean they are, of course, but at the root of them most are stories about what it means to be human. They are much bigger.
It is one if my favorites. Sure it is about an evil clown, but it really is about growing up and the things we leave behind as we do.
The one thing he can't do worth a crap sometimes is end the story. He has written some questionable endings to his stories. It, again, for example. The ending seemed so simplistic and literal compared to the rest of the book. I give it a new ending in my head, one that was more satisfying to me. Not much changed in the action, but the nature of the evil was different.
Listening to Lisey's Stiry now. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Not an option.
And I've read most of Lovecraft and it's genius. But some of it hasn't aged well. The whole idea of aliens flying around in space with wings lol.
I'll say, Robert E Howard doesn't get the credit he deserves as a horror writer. People only know him for Conan but he has a whole host of cool horror stories. He wrote a bunch of cowboy horror stories and he had some cool Indian Jones like swashbuckling horror stories:

Lovecraft came up with some great ideas that other writers have been cribbing from for about a century. He also was good at setting a really creepy tone or vibe. But he was a terrible writer. His stories had almost zero dialogue, in some cases literally none. There wasn't any characterization. He was like a genius junior high kid trying to write stories.

I like both in different ways.
Read everville (on it's own) in middle school and that was my introduction to barker. Hadn't thought of that book in forever. I may have to read it again. I tried to go back and read the great and secret show later, but
I don't think I ever finished it.
Looking back, I've read a lot of his stuff but don't remember much of it.
I like king a lot too, but I haven't loved much of his new stuff.

Neil Gaiman is another writer you should check out. Probably better than both King and Barker.
