Do you not pay sales tax when you buy a car private party?

This has been around for awhile. I bought a bass pontoon boat from academy and it was a complete act of congress to et it registered. a $500 piece of plastic with no motor cant float without it either. Ridiculous

not only do you pay state tax but parish taxes too.

it was previously only taxable if you bought from a dealer. not its private sales too. I ended up paying 1800 dollars in taxes for the boat i bought.

I also just sold a boat a few weeks ago and he had a pocket notary. He put a pretty small amount on it..

It was never the same. Before, only the trailer was registered, so you only were taxed on its value.
