We all (should) know Mainier's quote a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the TCU pitching staff threw a bunch of walks this past weekend as they lost te series to Texas Tech 2-1. In your opinion, which quote is worse?

Mainieri
quote:

Basically, we lost the game because our first baseman couldn't keep his foot on the bag, on a routine play.

TCU's Schlossnagle
quote:

Horrible, just horrible. Just a total lack of respect for the pitching tradition of this program by our pitching staff. Everything we are about is pitching and throwing strikes, and this pitching staff refuses to commit to it."

to the players "thrown under the bus" I have just one thing to say...........tough shite.

deal with it. or go play fricking soccer.

winning baseball at top programs requires mental toughness (among other things). these kids better not be pussies and momma boys if they want to advance and play pro ball.

ITT:

Let's compare these two entirely different things.

In any event, what do I care about what TCU's coach does? Fine. He's an a-hole. What do I win?

If Decihmann could just stop getting picked off every time he actually manages to reach base, it would be much easier to be mad at pulmonary.

I would imagine PM is about ready to really tee off on him. he seems to have the talent but is a frick up inside the lines. this team seems to be driving PM nuts.

When he got picked off after they threw over there the 19th consecutive time, I could see the dread on the kids face. I felt bad for him because I know he was going to get lit up. I hope, instead, it went like this:

What motivation would you have to work hard and play for a guy that obviously doesn't have your back. It was totally classless and cowardly for Mainieri to call out a player in a public setting. If you want the respect of your guys, treat them with respect.
Chew his arse all you want behind closed doors, but you always have your guys back.

I'm fine with some of that, I saw this discussion already and he and PM are flat out wrong on this:

quote:

Basically, we lost the game because our first baseman couldn't keep his foot on the bag, on a routine play.

Neither.

Grow a pair, play better, and move on.

Do you remember Saban grabbing the corner-back, Damiels facemask when Daniels screwed up right in front of Saban on the field. He chewed his butt in front of millions. The next play Daniels made a good play and Saban grabbed and hugged and congratulated him.
I guess each player is different but its big sports for big boys.
It wasn't classless and cowardly. Everybody who watched the game knew it was a screw up and cost us a chance at victory.
It appears that some players on the team would have benefited by a year or two at JC to learn the fundamentals.

Greg doesn't care about CPM saying he lost the game because Kramer made a shitty throw on a routine play.

Greg is pissed that he didn't get to travel to Omaha last year so that CPM's son could sit in the dugout.

Wasn't Diechmann injured and out for the season last year when the team went to Omaha?

Are you saying Mainieri's son had a better chance to deliver a clutch pinch hit homer to beat TCU?

Greg was playing summer ball during the CWS.

There are people who still believe that these are "college athletes" and not professionals. Some of these baseball players are only on a partial scholarship and some may not even be on scholarship.

I'm not overly worked up over it, bit it's a little low-rent to single out a single college athlete over a mistake or a group of players (ex: Our quarterbacks are horrible, horrible, horrible. One can't hit the broadside of a barn and the other throws nothing but interceptions).

Mainieri and Scholassnagle are the coaches; recruit better players or coach them up.

That's called coaching and it happens at all levels of sport. Publically criticizing a player or passing the blame upon a player's shoulders to the media following a loss is at a different level.

Could you imagine what would happen if Steve Fisher said, "We were so close to winning a national championship. We would have won if Chris Weber would have kept his head in the game and was aware of our time outs" or if Les Miles (regarding the 2008 Alabama game) would have said, "You know, our team really played their asses of. I'm damn proud of them. Especially the grit and resolve to block that last second, chip shot field goal to force the game into overtime. If only it wasn't for our quarterback gift wrapping a couple of easy interceptions, we would have won that game."
