Yes. Do you realize how many players (great ones, too) we lost from last year? It's cyclical. Calm down.

quote:

What happened to national powers reloading (see Bama football)?

Do you understand how asinine it is that this is the standard? Bama's current football dynasty will go down as one of, if not THE, greatest stretch of college football in the sport's history. That is not the norm. That is the exception. That should not be expected from any program anywhere. It just so happens that this rare dynasty is happening not only in the same conference as LSU, but the same division. And with a former LSU coach.

Johnny Jones improved the basketball program drastically from where it was when Trent Johnson left. This past season was a major disappointment, no doubt. But after three years of notable improvement, you dont give the guy one year to rebuild himself?

I agree Nikki needs to be gone. That program has been trending downward for three years.

The state of LSU athletics is certainly not at its pinnacle currently but its also definitely not time to start burning down buildings. Everyone take a deep breath.

Glad you could bring some new thoughts to the Rant. Usually we get the same thing over and over.

He lives in Geismar and had to be told the difference between dominant and dominate.
For him mediocrity would be a step up.

I cannot tell if this is Alleva's fault.
Alleva appeared to try to fire Miles last year and got F'King'd.
King Alex. seems to have made it clear that paying a lot of money for an LSU coach is not acceptable right now.
So, if you are Alleva and IF you want to hire a good coach for MBB, you know you will not likely have the money to make a good hire.
What do you do?
He may have no choice.

I told my wife this morning that LSU pays a premium for mediocre results. Miles, Mainieri, and Jones should be an a major hot seat. Fargas should have been fired.

I agree overall with OP, especially in basketball, and Joe Dean was king of this, because other than the big three (two of which were not elite) he allowed (and IMHO wanted) all other sports to be average so he did not have to put more $ into them. Skip demanded the best from most coaches but we still have far too much deadweight. Look at all LSU sports and find the coaches who have been here for 5 or 10+ years with no SEC titles or National success. If your going to have the sport, at least expect it win a conf title every 5-10 years, we have sports that have gone 20 with none. Not all on Joe, but would love to see him and F King move on, sure we could end up worse off, but I like our chances to do better (promote Verge, keep Eddie and add some new blood).

Jones was one of the lowest paid coaches in the conference. Miles is paid what the market dictates, and he still makes less than Bielema, Freeze, Saban, and Sumlin. He makes about the same as Malzahn, McElwain, and Butch Jones do. If you want to say coaching salaries are out of control, then I agree with you, but LSU does not "overpay" for Miles. As far as Mainieri, LSu is still consistently a top 10 team almost every single year. College baseball just happens to be more competitive in this conference than it is in football (yes, football). He has his flaws, but LSU is still the only baseball program in the country that generates a profit. Mainieri has been to Omaha 4 times in his 8 years (excluding this season because it's an unknown). 99.9% of college programs would kill for those type of results. He's in elite company. People need to get the 90s out of their brains. It's not the 90s anymore, and you cannot compare Paul to Skip. It's apples and oranges.

Damn, taking that Tulane loss hard huh? Did you stay up all night thinking about it? I couldn't imagine waking up and that being something I needed to talk to my wife about.

yeah I don't think people understand how difficult that is to overcome with the roster limits and scholarship limits baseball has. It's not like you can prepare for something like that like you can in football.

FKing is serious problem. He said sports not important to him. Football equals $180 million and it's not important. Wonder if that $7 million annual donation from football program is important. Hum, let's stop that donation and use money for sports programs.
There is a King problem at LSU. And what is B of S doing about it? Sorry is that silence we hear?

With big 3, I'd have to go way, way back to find a coach going 10 years without SEC Title, maybe Rabebenhorst or Smith.

I'd say our baseball team is the envy of 99.5% of programs around the country, we're doing fine. What the frick do you expect when we have to replace 8 of 9 starting fielder's and hitters from last year?

Eta: basketball is a whole different story, fire both of them, we are the envy of nobody

The power structure at lsu has to be dissolved before any real changes are going to take place. And these good ole boy system ppl we have in their right now are very hard to get rid of nobody wants em and they're dug in like ticks sucking money out of the lsu fans.

It might be interesting to know how much money LSU sucks out of you.
