Not a joke!
Dreams do come true
And, at the end of the study, the gov't will declassify pot, leading the way for:
A) More studies
&
B) Legalization in all 50 states!
Dreams do come true
quote:
The United States National Research Center (NRC) has been commissioned by the National Institute of Drug Abuse(NIDA) to conduct comprehensive research evaluating the effects of cannabis on the human body. The research, which will take part in seven facilities across the nation, is intended to determine whether or not cannabis can be used to relieve stress and stress-related disorders, while allowing consumers of the plant to maintain normal function in their lives. “This is one of the first, very promising studies, that will finally reveal the answer of the age old acquisition that stoners are ‘Just Lazy’,” says lead researcher Michael Gregory. “It’s an exciting new study that may push the legality of marijuana to all 50 states.”
quote:
For the research, participants will be required to stay at the facility for six months (making it immediately un-doable for many if not most people), while performing various everyday activities such as cleaning, watching TV and reading, while also regularly consuming cannabis. During all of this, participants will be evaluated by medical staff.
quote:
Researchers looking to gather over 300 recruits into their facilities before the study begins; these recruits will be paid $3,000 for every week they take part in the study. At the moment, the NRC isn’t accepting new applicants for those wanting to take part in the study, though that’s expected to change in the near future; we’ll update this article when it does.
And, at the end of the study, the gov't will declassify pot, leading the way for:

&
B) Legalization in all 50 states!

So they're going to waste millions to research effects that we already know of?
Just like the millions we wasted to study why people cheat on their taxes.

Yes. It's what our gov't does.
BUT, at the end of this study, they will have undeniable proof that pot is harmless, and this will open the door to declassification and legalization.
This is really a pretty big step.
FWIW, I was sent this article by my old boss who heads a think tank in DC dealing with drug policy reform. He thinks this is a pretty big deal.

Seriously?
Do the millions of successful, functioning users not tell you that now?

Govt paying govt to "research" known conclusions. Brilliant!

Will they supply hot women to have sex with and plenty of food/drink? Otherwise count me out.

They won't declassify. At most they'll bump it to a Schedule 2, but even that would be shocking.

I agree that it's a big deal. It's just ridiculous that we have to do these bullshite studies to get it "de-scheduled". We have to dance around our own arbitrary rules that we scooted around in the first place.

Well, if you trust the government to have an unbiased, controlled study, to publish accurate results, and follow the recommendations/conclusions of their own study.
Didn't Nixon commission a marijuana study and actually ignored the results of his own study because they were not favorable to his pre-conceived conclusion?

one of his own aides said they created the war on drugs specifically to throw hippies and blacks in jail b/c they were politically opposed to him.
quote:
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people," former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman told Harper's writer Dan Baum for the April cover story published Tuesday.
"You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities," Ehrlichman said. "We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."
