Does Texas Tech baseball have fake dirt (brown turf) on their infield?

At a sports bar watch them get throttled by UT, looks like they have brown field turf instead of real dirt.
WTF? What are the field requirements for fields these days? Are things becoming less about rules and more about guidelines/suggestions?

Yes, Texas had the same thing, I think they may have gotten rid of it.

Tulane has had this for a while. The mound is still dirt.

A number of new college and minor league fields are going turf, I don't think the wind has as much to do with it as budget. No groundscrews, tarps, etc.
* and other colleges with existing grass fields are converting. I caught some of the Oklahoma game today and they switched to turf as well.

How is that any different than what they used to do with AstroTurf on the whole field? It's just painted brown in the infield.

Troy has a field like that and it'll get so hot in the summer that plastic parts of your cleats will begin to melt if you stand in one spot on the infield too long ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Illinois State did this a few years back. At the time only the infield grass and dirt was turf. Outfield was real grass and mound was dirt. They may have gone full turf by now. Haven't kept track as they lost their coach and haven't been too hot lately.

The only dirt at Patterson Stadium (home of Louisville) is on the pitcher's mound. Everything else is artificial. Seems like more and more programs are going to this

This is very common these days. More and more teams are going to field turf, less chance for rainouts and easier to maintain than grass and dirt.
