easier pitch to teach than a curveball. Circle change is all about choking it in your palm (that sounds bad) and throwing with same motion as a fb
ETA: I could argue at 10 it doesn't even matter if the arm speed is slower.

his dad has asked me a couple times if I'm gonna teach him any other pitches so I get the feeling he's wanting me to. The kid is 10 will be 11 in june.
Tell the guy to find someone else to help cripple his kid. Problem solved.

No it's not.
At that age the 3-finger change is all that is needed.

just teach him to concentrate on hitting his spots and rolling ground balls.
it's not gonna do much harm to teach him the fundamentals of throwing a curve ball at that age. however, he doesn't need to be turning it over too much. especially not in competition. there's no need for it. unless.........his dad is one of those dudes that thinks that he will be in the draft this year of course.

We pay our 23yo guy $30.00 an hour, and he's on the cheap side. If you're going to be ruining kids, at least charge a decent rate for it. Repeat customers aren't going to be available anyway. Gotta get paid up front.

Minimum. Most authorities would say 14-16, depending on how fast the kid matures physically.

Alright I'll up it a little bit and never said I was gonna ruin the kid.

If you are going to enable a kid that young to throw a curve, you are not helping. And I can guarantee if you show him how he will use it in games. Then the other kids won't be able to hit it, so he'll use it more. Then they will start to figure him out, and he will have to sacrifice form for movement. Then something in his arm will pop and his dad will call him a pussy. Then he will wind up hanging out in rest areas, giving truckers hand jobs in the bushes for money to feed his addiction to the opiates that he got hooked on after elbow surgery at 12. Then his remains are found in a creek along the interstate in ten years or so. frick you, you murdering bastard.

When I played, there was a ban on kids under 12 throwing a breaking ball. This was Dixie Boys. Dixie Youth could throw junk. I'm pretty sure throwing junk at a young age can be harmful.
I'm not sure if Little League has had that kind of age limitation

U-trip is pretty much run what you brung. One of several things I strongly disagree with them on.

shite no do not teach that kid a breaking pitch. I worked under an ortho child specialist as a nurse for 6 years. Surgery, clinic, treatment, casting etc and I played college ball. That shite is a no go for kids that age. Shouldn't be doing that until their soft tissues and bones mature. You can do tons of harm to the growth plates and soft tissue. shite, you shouldn't even be teaching him to pitch. It's terrible on his arm... Dad and coach will have him needing tommy John bye the time he is 15.
If and only if.... You are going to "teach" him anything offspeed. Teach him a change. No abnormal motion other than the actual throwing motion which is actually abnormal in itself.
Not beating up on you, but how the hell are you teaching kids baseball and don't know this stuff?

10 is too young for curve and circle change (this takes large hands)... Teach him the fast ball(2 and 4) seam and straight Change.
Other than that, concentrait on mechanics and drive home that pitching is not a contest of how hard you can throw. Teach him the art of pitching

I doubt that the kid as a hand big enough to actually grip a change-up the way he is supposed to. My 11 yo doesn't even have large enough hands for it.

True statement. Offspeed gets the young ones. Around 14-15, it wont work as effectively.
I'm guessing you peaked at 10? Changing speed is everything from little league to the bigs

20 bucks an hour for a 19 year old to teach some kid to throw a baseball sounded pretty good
19yo is too young to teach someone else how to pitch. Just bc you can do it well doesn't meant you know how to teach it well. And at 19 I doubt you have enough life experience to be an effective teacher. Teaching is more than showing someone how to do something, you need to concur the psychological aspect of it so that it sinks in

At that age, fastball and change are all he needs.
