What is best way to keep nylon thread from breaking in weedeater/edger

Been a while since I have used it and I am obviously not doing something right. Edging with it and thread is cutting off very quickly.

Don't hit the concrete with it.

Make sure when you reel it with line that you put it on like a fishing reel. If you are just bunching it on and not having it tight, you hit something which tightens the line, then breaks.

Was definitely loose. Will work on that

I am sure I was banging the hell out of the concrete trying to get the edge right at the grass/concrete

Soak the trimmer string in a bucket of water for a few days
STIHL USA Nylon is a hygroscopic material and if the line is stored in dry conditions, e.g. in a shed or a warehouse it can loose its moisture and therefore its flexibility, it can become stiff, brittle and break easily. Storing it for a couple of days in a closed bag with some added water at room temperature or higher will bring the line back closer to the original, more flexible condition and should significantly reduce breakage due to brittleness

like fish said...
if you're getting the head to close to heavy brush or fences it has a tendency to tighten the wound trimmer string in the head and kink it...then it has a higher tendency to break off...
always cut closer to the tips of the trimmer string...
my brother runs through two or three reloads when we do a few properties and I can load it once for the same amount of trimming...
he's buying the next batch...

Get the thickest string your weed eater can handle

ACE has a brand that when loaded properly lasts forever. I used to stop and fix mine like twice a trimming, have used this line 4 times without a kink and still has half a spoil

Do you know the exact name of it?

I'll see if I can get name
But it has little ridges on it and is the ACE brand,

Get a Gator head, and the plastic blades. And a replacement pack of a dozen blades will last you a few seasons. I put fresh ones on in the spring, and end up replacing them around August.

Don't feel bad. When I weedeat next to the house (brick and concrete) I feel as though I have keep a pair of channel locks in my back pocket and the spool of string close by.
I definitely did not know the trick about the tight winding. I have problems with the winding wanting to unravel when I'm loading the spool back into the head of the weedeater...How do you keep it tight then?

There are little cutouts on the head where you clip the string into before you put the head back on.
Put the string through the holes and seat the head. Then, pull both strings at the same time to get the head in the right position.
Seriously though, just get thicker string. People don't think there is a difference, but I've cut grass professionally in the past, and hate when I have to use the skinny stuff. I use 0.095 IIRC

Well my use of your theory is good...my execution must suck. Because what you say is exactly as I do it...I'll have to see what diameter string I use.

you need to go pick up a speed feed head for your trimmer...

Used thicker string today. Much better

A lot of people try and do fancy shite with them, when in reality, bigger string works fine. You don't even need to use that fancy string
