And if you want my super honest opinion, Drake, here it is. While this may not be the popular, fun or optimistic opinion, I do believe our window is over. At least the SB Window.
With the right moves and hitting on early picks in the next year or two I think we can still be competitive in the division, and possibly give some teams trouble in playoffs (again IF a lot of right moves are made). But I don't think this is a SB team constructed as is, especially the more years that go by with Drew getting older and older. And I don't think any rookie, regardless of position is going to do enough in the next 2-3 years to change that.
Again, just my belief. I hope on everything im wrong, and I'll be glad if I am. But I don't think I am, unfortunately.

I've actually felt this since before last season. Brees is my favorite athlete of all time but I just don't think we're gonna be able to put enough around him to make a real run for a TITLE. It would hurt like hell to draft his successor, but if they truly think Lynch has top 5 qb in nfl potential in his prime, I wouldn't mind the pick at all.

I get it. I just cannot get on board with the our window is over mentality. It doesn't make sense imo.
Call me a homer, but Brees just played one of the best seasons of his career. Father Time will eventually win, but he's still a top five QB and he can be that for another two years.
Maybe two years is not enough to build the team around him, and I can understand that opinion. but two of our best years in the Payton era came on quick turnaround. Awful, awful D in 08 to 2009. Bad team in 12 to 2013.
This offense is still very, very good. Another 10 sack guy or impact DT. Just a big hit at pick 12 for our D plus Keenan healthy, and this is a playoff team.
Enter the 2017 offseason with a solid team and a wad to blow...there can be a final push...and there should be.
The window might be closed forever once Brees is gone anyway (exaggerating). Elite QBs win, and we may searching for one for a long, long time, regardless of the strategy for it. Let's give it one last push for one of the best to play the game. Let's TRY to make a few gem draft picks that give us one last chance to make a run.
