Reverse Roles from 2015: Could Steph win with Draymond and Klay out?

Realize this is purely hypothetical and some may find it pointless discussion. But I very often find myself hashing this idea out in my head.
The Cavs were without their second and third best player last year. LeBron somehow took the best team in the league to 6 games with role players.
Assuming Draymond and Klay are the warriors 2 and 3, would the Warriors be competitive without them, going against a healthy Cavs sqaud?
The Warriors are even better this year, but with a healthy Kyrie and Love, can the Cavs pull the upset?

I think he could lose Klay and still win but not Green. Klay's scoring is a little bit more replacable than Green's versatility.
Love was addition by subtraction last year because he didn't/still doesn't fit well and Triston Thompson was a match up nightmare for GS too big and athletic on the boards for any of their big men and allowed the Cavs to beat up on the Ws on the offensive glass

To me it's ridiculous to try and compare two completely different types of players in a scenario like this.
There's very little commonality shared between LeBron and Steph's game other than their will to be great. It's inherently easier for LeBron to continue to win without help because he's a bigger body and more versatile. Doesn't make him a better player. Just makes him different.
That answers the question to the best of my ability.

I have a hard time seeing the Warriors being at anywhere near their current level without Green and Thompson.

Agree here. I still haven't seen Love mesh well enough to be impressed with him on a nightly basis. Sometimes he makes nice passes, but rarely is he dominant.

Fair point. But still, they are the alphas of their team, and being able to win without others around them's help is a fair discussion.

it looked like Kyrie was too big for Curry. Kyrie swatted layups away from behind.
Sure, Cavs in 6 if they meet in the finals.

I wonder if more people would rather Steph win another, or LeBron take down the machine that is the warriors?

I mean they could probably win a game or two just like the Cavs did.

quote:Highly unlikely. In the past 6 years, this will probably be the 2nd worst Lebron Finals team, assuming he gets there. And he's going up against likely either the best team the Spurs have ever fielded or arguably the best team of all time. The odds are not even close to in his favor.

I'll take Steph.
I'm impressed with the Warriors and have enjoyed their utter dominance.

If Golden State faced a healthy Cavs team last year with Green and Klay, the Cavs would win that series in 5.
Curry can't carry a shorthanded team like LBJ can carry one. They are 2 different players.

Warriors are still a championship contender without Klay. Without Draymond, no way.
Obviously there's no one on the GSW that can get as hot at Klay can (besides Steph) but I think their replacement players can approximate Klay's role much more easily than Draymond's role.
Without Klay or Draymond? That makes GSW a 5 or 6 seed.

I don't think it's far fetched to say the Cavs may have won. In 5? Idk. I don't remember how the first couple games went, but I could have seen the Cavs in 6

I also agree. Does that make LeBron a better player? If Curry can't do what you say, that means LeBron can do things Curry can't. Besides shoot the three better, are their things Curry can do that LeBron can't?

I think LBJ is the better player honestly. His ability to guard multiple positions at an elite level as well as his crazy ability to score inside give him the edge. Curry is a better shot maker but that's about it. He isn't near the defender. He's not as versatile. He's still a really good player and very very unique which is why people love him so much.
