More shocking, Spieth or Smylie

Spieth finishing 3 behind Willet, or Smylie shooting an 81 and dropping to 29th place?
Spieth has shown plenty of clutch moments in his short time on tour, and this was Smylie's first Master's. I was more shocked to see Spieth collapse, but some co-workers disagree. Either way, I believe Smylie will bounce back and bring home multiple Majors in his career.

Spieth and it's not close imo

Speith
Smylie has never been in such a crucial moment in his life
I am not sure anyone expected Smylie to pull it out...Speith hitting a quad bogey was the most shocking point in the tournament outside of Ernie Els completely losing focus on the first hole

Im going with this one.
Smylie is ranked #48 in the world. That was an EPIC collapse for a top 50 golfer.

Smylie was expected to do that. That was the first time in his PGA career he's been in a position like that and for it to come at the Masters, that's a huge amount of pressure.
Spieth has finished tournaments in the past. A quad when he was so close to wrapping it all up is a collapse of epic proportions. So this is my choice.

Spieth is ranked second and had a 5 shot lead with 9 to play.

I love Smylie, but in his first big tournament ever, I expected him to have a rough day. Spieth is one of the top golfers in the world, had about a 4 stroke lead with 6 holes to play, had a quad bogey, and lost. Total choke job. That was easily the more shocking event.

look, Smylie seems like a really good guy, has talent, and we like that he's a Tiger. But multiple majors???
Really???

Smylie may get 2-3 more OPPORTUNITIES on Sunday to win a major but I don't think he's a multi major winner caliber player. I think he'll have a career much like Matt Kuchar. What Spieth did is inconceivable but I put the blame on peej, his knack is uncanny

If Smylie has a career like Matt Kuchar he would have overachieved expectations.

It was almost predictable. Not because people think that Smylie is bad, but because that's normally what happens to rookie contenders in a major. Rory blew up for an 80 in the final round in 2011. I heard them on the golf channel yesterday morning saying that you had to go all the way back to the 1960s to find a player in a final grouping of a major with less tour experience than Smylie. You know what that guy shot in that round, 80. They also said that guy went on to win again later in the year, so here's hoping for good things from Smylie.

agreed. Kuchar has won over $34 million. Has been in the top 30 of the PGA Tour Money List for the last 7 years. Has played in the Ryder Cup. Has 12 pro wins.
If Smylie's career is even half of Kuchar's, it would an incredible achievement. The vast majority of pro golfers on tour haven't come anywhere close to what Kuchar has done. It's not easy out there.

Smylie is not shocking at all to anyone who has any kind of understanding of playing golf.

If Smylie makes that putt on one it may have been a different day, he also missed a close one on 5, then the wheels came off. Spieth on the other hand was human and that place can bring anyone to his knees in a hurry. Comparing him to Tiger is over cause he never had an epic breakdown like that. There will never be another one like Tiger in his prime I am sure Spieth will bounce back he seems that type of kid. He is great he just swallowed it for three holes, the birdie on 13, was amazing after the 7 and if he makes the putt on 16 who knows. That is golf

There can't be another Tiger. What Tiger did for the sport is amazing and I don't understand any golf fan that hates him. The great young players that are playing now are because of him.

Smylie lost a lot of money yesterday

Tiger was phenomenal and elevated golf to great heights. His golf accomplishments were exceptional and the players today owe him a debt of gratitude (much like Tiger's generation owes Arnie and Jack).
But it's quite easy to dislike Tiger. Personally, he's an arse, and obviously the entire martial-infidelity stuff revealed his character.
I can separate the golf from the personal stuff, but I realize that's hard for a lot of other people. And if they choose to dislike the guy, they've got ample reasons.
