Went Ecobee downstairs because of the remote sensors and Sensai for my upstairs unit. Love both.

Glad I didn't go Nest.

I think Nest does it that way because they have a setting where the unit can be turned to Heat & Cool mode that displays the set temps like this. If they reversed the display like ya'll are suggesting, it would be more difficult to set the two different temps in that mode. Probably done for consistency sake rather than having it work different ways in different modes.

That's my guess.

I don't care if they change it or not since I never actually touch the thermostat. I always use my phone.

I am simply making an educated guess as an actual user as to why they haven't made that change.

I realize that Nest touched you in your naughty place when you were a kid and it has somehow become cool on here to hate Nest, mostly due to the amount of preaching you do, but I am have been nothing but happy with mine.

I have paired Nest, one upstairs and one down stairs. I've never had issues with mine. could there be something better? Sure. But I got my 2 for free. So, it was hard to beat the price else where

Don't bother. Nest is garbage. So is Amazon. CAD said so.

dude i'm a huge google & wink fan

i'm also their biggest critic

tony has straight-up run a 3.2b acquisition into the ground and you are defending him?

what has nest put out in the last 4 years besides updates to their ONE product..a thermostat?

'bought' products dont count.

a $100 smoke detector with an illegal feature they had to lobotomize after touting that as the reason to buy it? el o el

i'll hang up and listen.

Atleast you own that product and have experience with it. Gets a little old when you sit here and constantly railroad products you've never own and know nothing about.

FWIW - I think the Nest thermos looks cool but outside of that I hate it.

wink supports nest products..having said that..what's worth buying?

honeywell thermostats did everything nest does for $70, not $300 and they have a multi-billion dollar R&D budget and 100 freaking years of experience designing a robust product used by 99% of the world.

i looked at a $40 kidde (again, name brand here) smoke detector and a $150 nest about the same time they all were RECALLED due to the illegal hand-waving 'feature' Tony was too arrogant to properly vet prior to adding.

in his zeal to be as 'cool' and 'innovative' as steve jobs he took shortcuts while trying to create 'ipod' versions of thermostats & smoke detectors.

eta at least wink knows their software is crappy and provide *EXCELLENT* customer service and update it constantly to improve it and listen to their customers.

I'm not taking just about this thread. It's any product discussed on this board.

i bash C4 because of the price and i'm a cheap bastard

you are probably correct in that i tend to bash what i percieve as products that lack a certain price/value proposition.

so if you see me swinging for the fences, its probably over a $700 best buy HDMI cable or a $2000 apple laptop when everyone knows these are not just overpriced but CRIMINALLY overpriced.

same goes for $300 nest thermostats.

Exactly. Not everybody is cheap and see value in things like a monitored security system for instance.

you gotta admit, i had some points such as the need for an actual control panel in 2016.

i know the grannies will always feel more 'secure' by having their ADT cubicle-dweller hanging by the phone 24/7 and paying monthly but we gotta stir some conversation about where this should be heading.

there's always a ying/yang installers who make a living setting up high-margin systems who don't want to see that change vs systems starting from the ground up that start to creep ever closer to that for pennies on the dollar.
