Curry or Indian food in general. Thought I would never eat it then I tried it and didn't like the flavors and now I am absolutely addicted. I make a curry at home that is phenomenal and easy to make. Could eat it all week long.

Sushi - I used to only eat sushi if everything was cooked in it and I still felt queasy after eating it. Now I love it and eat some of the raw options, mainly tuna.

Medium rare steak - never thought of it as exotic but I was raised by parents who ate their steaks well done. I learned when I moved away from home to try steak cooked less well done and now I love it all. I still like a well done steak, though, even though I know I shouldn't. I can't help it. I prefer a medium cooked steak but if it comes out well done I don't need to send it back.

same

first time i ever had anything (outside of sirloin or chopped steak) was my roommate at LSU dragging me to Ruths Chris and buying me a rare NY strip

it was an epiphany. i have since moved beyond NY strip as my 'go to' in favor of a ribeye but i eat nothing but rare (or med rare if forced to) steaks now.

cant even imagine eating it well done/dried out now.

no wonder we always kept A1 around the house.

Yup. My mom would cook steaks well done every time. The first time I one med-rare I never looked back.

A huge chuck of foods I love now are things I probably would have thought were weird as a child, honestly.

But this above is true for me as well. Growing up, I thought I hated steak. I'd cry and pitch a fit when my parents said we were having steak for dinner. When I got older (but was still a kid), I couldn't figure out why that was considered a special treat for people. Spending 10 minutes chewing per bite of food was miserable for me.

Then I discovered what a real steak should taste like, and it changed everything. My mom likes med-rare or medium, but my dad will not do it. I've gone to their house and cooked burgers "my way" a few times. They eat them because they'd never be impolite, but I can tell they're dying inside. I won't put them through that again.
