Which scenario would you take as a professional athlete?

Play for team A:
Make an average salary of $10 million/ year for 10 years and have no shot at a championship. Example... Play for the Titans.
Play for team B:
Make an average salary of $6 million/ year for 10 years and compete for a championship. Example... Play for the Patriots.

Um, B? Be rich and a winner > Be rich and a loser.

I'll take the extra $40 million.

How famous am I in both scenarios?

Same and hope my team turns it around. However if the numbers were a little closer say 8 and 10 and I got to live in California or Denver instead of Tennessee then give me the 8.

You are famous in both scenarios

Team A. I'll take the extra money and knowing its for 10 years the team may just turn it around enough to make a run at a super bowl. But bottom line is ill have a bigger pool than the guy on the pats.

B. Ton of dough and a ring. I can retire on $60M no problem

I'd take a significant pay cut to play in a city I like. I'd tell a few teams to not draft me.

The only reason to take Option B is if you have no children or family to take care of. That would make it a lot easier to sacrifice the money for personal and team glory.

Option A easily. All you're playing for is a CHANCE at a championship. The Patriots, as competitive as they've been, went 10 years in between super bowl wins. Meanwhile, the Saints for instance were a perennial cellar dweller who won a super bowl in that 10 year period. You would have never predicted that in 2005. The NFL specifically has so much fluctuation that it's easier to take the money and hope that the pendulum swings in your favor in the 10 years you're playing

I mean, this is 65% more money here. Not like we're talking about a slight paycut.

If you go by career earnings and team success, player A would be Joe Thomas ($98.5 million) and player B would be Vernon Davis ($61.6 million). Thomas has been with the Browns for his entire career while Davis has played in two Super Bowls and four Conference Championship Games with the 49era and Broncos.

B. I can live with 6 million a year.

I'll take the scenario that 99% of pro athletes do. The money. Only fans care about championships.
