Rent a car or three depending on how many people your group is. It's like $20/day for a 4-door standard, and you could probably get them down on that if you're getting several. Swing by a store and pick up beer.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! A friend of mine rented a car and bought the insurance. He was t-boned by a local Mexican woman. He had one margarita, but they said it voided his insurance. He spent a night in jail and they held his passport until he came up with the $4,000 to repair the lady's car.

Akamal beach is a few clicks south. go there. incredible.

also, go to the cenotes. incredible. can't remember which ones we went to-- use trip adviser. or you can book through your resort/ they always send you to the good ones.

go into city and loosen up. look at restaurant and bar/club reviews before you go.

if you do drugs make sure you get them through resort.

your going to Tulum right? DO NOT FORGET MOSQUITO REPELLENT.

If you are renting a car down there, check out the reviews with American Car Rental Company. We used them after lots of research comparing total cost including full insurance companies in Mexico. If you need a transfer service to move from Airport to hotel, check out Canadian Transfers They were very good also.

Do NOT do one of the bus excursions where they drop you off at a “market” and take you somewhere for dinner. Both times the tour bus were the only ones there and the drivers got cash kick backs. Mexican food doesn’t cost $15 a person in Mexico. Just saying.

You have to do the conversion. Mexican people are smaller. One Mexican in .65 non Mexicans. So $15 may not be far off.

Just came back from carribean cruise Sunday and one day there
We went to tulum to see the ruins and city
Rented a driver and took ferry from cozemel
To get there. I always wanted to see Mayan ruins and this was my first chance
I liked it cause the city was surrounded by a wall you ducked through and felt neat stepping into ancient grounds
But it was hot hot hot!!!
Also the beaches in the area are all covered with some kind of sea grass like in Galveston but worse
It stunk bad also was all in the water by the beach you would could not swim in it
They are dredging it and raking it and carrying it off in trucks etc but you need to ask around to find a good beach
Had some of this on cozemel also
If going to beach ask around
The adventure excursions and zoo etc all on the same main strip of road
