The Cost for Michigan to get Miles

Dont forget that Carr got ALL his assistants signed for next year. So either Les will have to deal with those assistants for a year or Michigan will have to pay them which is around 1.5 million. Then add in the cost of the buyout clause for Miles to go to Michigan which is 1.25 million. So its going to cost Michigan 2.75 million before Les has his first game.

Doesn't sound like a job that anyone in his right mind would take.

It is always a danger to overestimate the intelligence of folks in Michigan...even still, one must imagine that the Michigan AD did the math and still decided to interview Les.
Don't think for a minute that Michigan will try to save a few bucks in making this decision.
My guess is that Les goes, but it makes me sad. He didn't show it last Friday, but he is a great coach. Even great coaches have bad games.

I hope he doesnt leave. The arkansas game was horrible, but I really believe that he is the perfect fit for us. I love his attitude, the way he talks to the media. I will admit that he might not be the coach of say Saban or Spurrier, but he seems like a better person and he is the type of person i would want my child to play for. I know I am going to be called crazy, but thats just how I feel.

Sounds to me like Michigan already has a coach in mind that has already agreed to take the present assistants.

I have a feeling that if we win on Saturday, and Les leaves, we will not push the issue of enforcing the buyout clause.

i think you're right. why would we want to gain 1.5 million dollars?

And Tubby has a 6 million buyout...

Use it towards another coache's buyout?

2.75mil is peanuts for a big program like Michigan.

Agreed. And LSU will probably accept the buyout.

That's right. UM has low salaries. They think it is an honor just to be a coach there. I don't think they will pony up anywhere near 2 million. 1.8 best. Lloyd Carr was making 1.25 and he won a NC. The brass at UM will not offer anything near what LSU will. Les will have a decision to make.

I think thats mainly b/c Carr havent won shite lately. if i'm not mistaken, 4 consecutive bowl losses. His NC was in the 90's when HC salaries were low.

Well, the $1.5M is a "sunk cost" that will still have to be paid no matter who is hird as Head Coach, unless some of the assistants are retained. Even then, who's to say that Les would not retain as many of them as any other coach selected.
My point is that assistants' salaries for next season cost Michigan real money, but it is not a factor in WHO they select as next head coach unless they found someone who would take the whole staff, and no big time coach will do that, in my opinion.

I've been told that LSU has told Miles not to let the buyout stop him from taking the Michigan job. LSU's big money boys are going to pay it for him.

They've been having Carr for years and know that if they want a decent coach to replace him, less than 2 mil ain't gonna cut it.
Posted on 11/29/07 at 4:15 pm to Froman
how much is Miles' current contract?

HeadSlash, why would LSU supporters pay Miles 1.25 buyout????????
