Setting up Vanguard Account

I started the process of setting up an account with Vanguard. To do so required mailing a signed form along with a voided check.
In the meantime I received a voicemail to call them back.
Is this normal procedure?

I don't remember doing that when I set mine up in 2011 but that was a long time ago.

I've had an account since 2010, didn't have to do any of that. Maybe they changed something along the way.

I set up mine 3 or 4 months ago and didn't have to do that. However when asked how much you want to contribute for last year in this year be aware that it will automatically withdraw that from your account.

Never had to do that. If I recall, they deposit a few pennies in your account and you verify the amounts.

i set one up two months ago and didn't have to do that.

They asked me to mail in that crap too. Not sure why. I haven't done it yet. Might just go with fidelity instead anyway.
